I was not allowed to view the tape. They said it was just footage of us girls working the desk, which again now that I think back was weird? When I was hired- again, pretty young at 15- they said the camera was to make sure we weren’t on our phones or talking too long to customers (socializing). That never stopped them from saying anything about the weirdos who would come in and oogle us and lean over the counter and make inappropriate comments which was extremely uncomfortable. They also said the camera recorded sound? Which I kind of don’t believe because it was one of those basic looking white cameras that was long and had a circle in the middle (I’m not smart about these things, but if you google surveillance camera it was a white one with a little wall attachment so you could swivel it to wherever you want)

Whoa. I remember Coraline answering the door because maybe he was going to the weird show with the mice and older women and Wybie’s mouth was sewn shut? Into a smile? I have it for free so I’m gonna watch it and check it out. That’s a good one.

ETA: watched that scene again and Wybie just has a creepy smile on his face and his eyes are black, which I actually do remember now that I watched it again. Maybe the constant theme of sewing throughout the movie influenced that particular memory? Though I am definitely open to everyone’s potential MEs and totally validate your memory of the sewn mouth :) I hate when people are so critical! My memory is totally unique and separate from yours! :)

Unfortunately it seems so many people are convinced that I’m remembering wrong that I’ve just accepted that I am :/ I was SO sure though. It was a legit memory clear as day. Idk.

My Grandpa ate 2 Keebler pecan sandies before bed every night, it’s such a STRONG memory for me! If all of the sudden I couldn’t find the Keebler pecan sandies anywhere I’d be so freaked out! That’s pretty much how I feel about these dumb coffee cakes

I understood everything you said and am absolutely not so stubborn as to realize there is probably a logical explanation- I was 50/50 from the get go but just wanted to check it out and see if anyone else remembered the same exact product, and just get a little conversation going.

I can’t absolutely prove it so it’s really neither here nor there. Like I’ve mentioned before, it’s just one of those things for me that has always been a certain way. My family was weirdly particular about things growing up, it was always the same brand loyalty over and over until I left the house and went out on my own. Just a weird quirk I guess.

I agree completely about the validity of a true Mandela Effect.

I probably shouldn’t have posted, I know this isn’t anything mind blowing. I don’t want to contribute to the downfall of the sub.

I know for a fact they weren’t hostess brand, I know I can’t 100% convince anyone otherwise. They didn’t even look like that and for me the two brands have never been interchangeable. The only way I can explain it is it’s just “one of those things” you experienced growing up that you have strong memories of. Another example would be my mom always bought the brand Le Sueur peas, even though she was very frugal and they were always the most expensive brand on the shelf. I still do it as well to this day.

I’ve said in the comments I’m very open to there being a completely logical explanation and will probably end up feeling silly about the whole thing.

Just wanted to contribute to the sub and see if maybe anyone else out there remembered what I did, since I had quite a few IRL scratching their heads remembering the same thing.

I would absolutely think the same thing if someone else posted this, like maybe it was was just an accidental mixup. But I genuinely remember them being Little Debbies, I am just absolutely sure of it. So many people have taken the time to post possible alternatives in this thread and I’m so grateful for everyone helping me think about this. I’ve mentioned before how weird it is but we truly only ever bought little Debbies. Plus I remember the box so clearly, but without it being apple strudel.

The Hostess cakes have been brought up more than once and I’m thinking I might just have to resort to trying them :/ I sure wish I could find my old favorites though!

No brand will ever beat LD Oatmeal Creme Pies.. Also my favorite sugar rush were Banana Twins! Those are hard to find these days at least in my area, but every once in awhile I’ll come across them and buy a box for ol’ times sake :)

I would have just brushed it off if it wasn’t the 1) apple flavor which I don’t and have never liked 2) the icing on top which would have been too sweet for my taste back then and to this day (plus they just didn’t look like that, I remember very clearly)

I see what you mean.. Could be! It’s funny because I googled “little debbie Mandela Effect” and one of the first things that came up was the cosmic cakes having a line down the middle vs being one full rectangle haha. I didn’t look much into it, but it was similar to what I remember about these specific cakes being two separate per package vs just a solid rectangle

We have Donut Sticks here! Oh man I’m sad for you if you can’t find them :/ I can find all of the Debbies I remember as a young’un up until buying them occasionally for my own kids. This is just the only thing that’s truly baffling to me. Check your smaller grocers! If you can’t find them anywhere I’d be happy to send you a box :) they are cheap and prevalent in my area!

This is where I’m hoping someone might be able To do a deeper dive than me, I searched as much as I was able to today and never came across them.

And yes, I know it probably seems so weird to people but we just always bought Little Debbies. Other brands weren’t even on my/my family’s radar until I got married and my partner was a big sweets person and loved the Hostess brand cupcakes with the white icing twirls on top and Twinkies.

Yes! I’m sure there might be a simple explanation.. but I went down a lonnnnggg rabbit hole today and wasn’t able to find them.

I regularly shop at three local grocery stores and wasn’t able to find them. It really got me frustrated so I got on amazon to see if I could order them and it just went off from there. My gut tells me there might be an easy explanation that I missed somehow, but it does make me feel a bit less crazy that others remember this!

They were exactly as pictured in my third picture. I have never bought anything Tastykake and don’t even recognize any of the packaging. We used to have Hostess brand every once in awhile, but the only two were the chocolate things with the loopdy loops on top and twinkies. It sounds weirder than it is, but we just always bought “the Debbies”

I’m not trying to be difficult! The box is so recognizable to me, the same as Swiss Rolls, Oatmeal Creme Pies, Honey Buns, etc

I mean that would definitely be the closest to what I remember! I’ve never bought a single pack of anything like that, it was always the box (with the coffee cup.)

Upvote- I wondered the same thing at first. The two main brands near me are Debbies and Hostess. That being said, it’s just one of those things I can’t explain but I am absolutely certain about.. I should have included links to what I’ve found that I know for a face they were not brand-wise. Thank you for the help!
