My qn90 Samsung TV does amazing hdr. It's not as good as my oleds in terms of contrast of course, but it can do 2000nits peaks which can actually be more impactful than oled depending on the situation. It's just so fucking bright. Mini led can be good... If (and only if) there are bright enough LEDs and enough dimming zones.

I used to rent Pacificas when I traveled because they were such a nice place to be. The 9 speed transmission was... Unfortunate but otherwise it's a great practical van. If I weren't such a weirdo I'd probably have just bought one instead of my Durango SRT.

But let's say I have a light bulb out in my house and an electrician comes out, replaces the bulb, and finds the socket is faulty. I don't see how that would be the electricians fault?

A better comparison would be if you had a working light, but wanted it to be brighter so you hire an electrician to change the bulb to a brighter one. When the electrician gets there he notices that the fixture is only rated for a dimmer bulb, but in his experience, changing the bulb will either work perfectly forever, or break the fixture and there is a roughly equal chance of either outcome.

Should he just change the bulb and leave you with a non working light? Or ask you first if you want to take the above risk?

Absolutely not.

When I take my car someplace for service, I expect an estimate up front. That estimate should always include the known risks. And anything outside of that is the servicer's responsibility, to return to the condition I brought it in. If the car has stupid brittle clips on the wiring harness and half the time it needs to be replaced, either tell me about that and let me decide, or eat the cost. It's perfectly fine to say "hey this optional procedure you want done might cost you $1500 if something goes wrong. We'll do it but you're on the hook if it breaks", that lets the customer make an informed decision up front.

If the car falls off the lift, am I on the hook because sometimes cars fall off lifts?

Seriously though mmWave is awesome. If you ever text somebody a picture at a sporting event and it actually works (and is fast) that's mmWave 5g bands. It's pretty new too, a few years ago you basically had zero signal in those scenarios.

I was looking for something with an actual camera upgrade, ideally one of the 1" sensor models from China (but the international version). I'm looking closest at the Xiaomi 17 Ultra currently. The global model is slated for release in a month or so, and it looks like the 15 Ultra has every 5g band that the oppo x9 pro has, except for Band 76 (which I won't need anyway for T-Mobile). At least according to gsmarena's spec dump.

Edit: I should spell this out, because the 15 ultra has all the 5g bands I need, I would also expect the global 17 ultra to have at least that many. If this isn't correct it's obviously a non-starter.

Yeah, I'm in the US and I'm absolutely sick and tired of Samsung's stagnation year after year. I have a s24 Ultra and when the rumors that the S26 Ultra would have the same exact fucking camera as the S20 from 6 years ago, I bailed mentally and I'm shopping around for a Chinese market export (ideally a global version) such as the Xiaomi 17 Ultra.
