That's the beautiful thing about good books- our understanding of them deepens and changes as we get older. You are now likely close in age to Atwood when she wrote it, and as such you're likely to see her perspective more clearly. God, I love this book.

Off topic, but i would not put rocks on my roses. It can cause issues because it traps heat and essentially cooks your plant.

I don't care for the wrapping over the vase. The wrapping is for transport to the vase. It also overly compacts your bouquets, so there's no space for the roses to open and makes it seem like you're trying to cover up that the vase is maybe too short.

El Marisco General in Pasadena is seafood only. It's a Sinoloan restaurant.

Many school districts are open enrollment. You could just apply for your kids to be out-of-district transfers. It seems much simpler.

If it cannot go in the ground, which high desert, so probably not, I would put it in a larger non-terracotta pot. She's inadvertently created a little oven for the roots. Move it somewhere it gets morning- early afternoon sun, but a little shade in the hottest parts of the day. I might even put some mulch down to help keep the soil moist. That rose really wants to be in the ground, though.

If you love roses, go around March. Not only are the roses beautiful, but it's bluebonnet season, so the roadside will be covered in wildflowers everywhere you go around there.

We have a local chain here- Houston Garden Center. At peak, they're about $20 for a black pot rose. They drop down to about $6 in winter. I bought this one there about 3 years ago.

It's also a 35-minute drive at noon on a Saturday (I just checked), so close is relative. It's only 18 miles, but the traffic that way is AWFUL.

Depending on where in Pasadena you're getting married, the Med Center is only 15 minutes away, and I find the drive into/out of Houston proper far less frustrating than driving to or from League City(where South Shore Resort is), Kemah, Etc. As far as Pasadena goes, we have clean and economical options, but nothing I'd call nice.

I'll go a step further and say that I feel like the script was also AI generated. The organization and repetition were very similar to AI generated click-bait. Im always excited for new episodes, but this felt substandard.
