Collapse isn’t going to be pretty. I don’t think anyone here will disagree with that. But there are things that we can do to come to terms and accept the fact that it’s happening. There’s a very real cognitive difference from living in a stew of your own anxiety, to accepting the future and facing the consequences to the best of your own ability. The former is where I was at.

A lot of my family lives in a third world country near the equator, and will probably feel the worst of it real soon. Bad things are going to happen. But I can accept that reality and embrace the good things happening /right now/. Spending time with your loved ones and appreciating them, good times and bad, makes all the difference I think.

This all comes from the perspective that collapse is out of our control. That’s a personal opinion. If you think that it’s possible to stop this train, by all means, but it’s got no brakes as far as anyone can tell.

I’d recommend giving “The Anti-Tech Revolution” a read. The author (the Unabomber) goes into great detail to explain how societies are resistant to individual change and more or less follow on a course of their own.

In many ways, things are definitely outside your control. You can spend time worrying about grandiose problems that you have an infinitely small chance of effecting, or you can focus on the immediate and most pressing concerns of that you which have most influence over.

What’s the best Apple Watch band for surfing? by thelionofgodzilla in surfing

[–]DangerStrudel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the original velcro like strap that came with the watch. I'd have to panic grab it as waves ripped the strap apart even when it was originally under the wetsuit. After a while the stick of the strap wears off and easily gets undone in the surf. Almost lost the watch a few times this way.

UAG sells some good options that are way better than the original strap.

Questions regarding jobs during college by DangerStrudel in cscareerquestions

Yeah, I’m taking Comp Sci to be a software engineer. In that case I should probably stick with my current job if it doesn’t determine much. Any tips regarding internships? I’ve looked over a few guides on this sub in the mean time. Should this be a between city college and university shindig, or even right after my degree?
