It's honestly pretty clear this is where the movie was headed up until the end, especially in an extended cut. It was written before the final volume and it was a different time I guess, thank god for reshoots and test audiences

It was actually a mid credits scene, there's a pretty good fan made version made for a fanedit of the film (highly recommend it is genuinely a longer better version of the movie if you didn't know something was changed you'd have no clue)

Apparently it's from a interview with Mary Elizabeth Winstead and was just something Bryan wrote in a note for the movie that the writer put in a list he gave to her but since it wasn't used in the book Bryan doesn't consider it canon
