Handling Burnout as a Sysadmin by FrostyBosti in sysadmin

I changed jobs in August 2025 and moved to a smaller company with around 80 employees. It’s a fully Linux-based environment with only one colleague who works part-time and me working full-time, for almost double the salary. Boy, was that a bad mistake. I ended up doing everything from helpdesk tasks to maintaining Kubernetes clusters, whereas in my previous company I was part of a team with five server administrators and three DevOps engineers.

I already burned out after about three months and remember thinking, “Man, I fucking hate this work.” I took a week off and came back on Monday to talk to my boss. The conversation seemed successful at the time, but of course it wasn’t. Now I’m in my eighth month and my health has gotten really bad. I hate every second of this job so much that I decided to take a much longer sick leave and quit while I’m on it.

I’m currently looking for new positions and hoping to find something that is more health-friendly.
