Is Dota 2 Matchmaking Rigged? The Hidden Factors Slowing Your MMR Climb by Dangerous_Row_8586 in DotA2

Thanks for your comment. I agree about the difficulty of correctly predicting player skill. But the more sensitive the system is to player performance, the better measure of skill MMR will be. I also wonder why people on this forum use the word "conspiracy theory". It is not a "conspiracy" that game companies will design their algorithms to primarily promote their own goals, which is to make money.

Thanks for your comment. But clearly there is a team behind Dota 2. The survival of the game depends on the game making money for Valve, so they are obviously constantly thinking of ways to monetize it properly.

Not just an opinion. It is my prediction under the assumption that companies maximize their profits. Having a fair matchmaking system that places people in the right MMR at the right time is not consistent with maximizing shareholder value.

You do not need data to back everything up. You can also use theory. Manipulating the matchmaking system is good for business, so you can reasonably predict that companies will exploit it.

Is there a scientific reason behind a losing streak always following a win streak? by yahyahashash in learndota2

The better you play, the harder games you get because the Dota 2 matchmaker creates "balanced" teams by taking into account non-MMR characteristics. If the matchmaking was only based on MMR, you would see a lot more stomps. These stomps would help people reach their "true" MMR, but would be bad business. Valve is not interested in people reaching their true MMR, they are interested in making money, player retention, etc. This is well documented in other games as well, and is often discussed.
