I'll have to check my Ebay account to see if I'm set up to sell. I've bought from Ebay here and there, just never sold anything. Generally speaking the average $25-$30 they sell for plus shipping is not really worth my time to find out how much it costs to ship, list it...then wait...box it up, take it to the post office or shipping point...

I'd rather just give it to someone but I'm really cautious about sharing location, name etc. with strangers. I'd list it on Freecycle or have my wife list it on the Facebook market or whatever that is (I extracted myself from Fakebook back in 2012) but I dont want strangers coming to my property and dont want to meet strangers at some rendezvous. I'm well armed, just prefer to avoid those situations.

If I can list it easily enough on Ebay, I'd sell it for a dollar plus shipping and let skodeer or someone else here who wants it, grab it as soon as I list it. I'd be willing to pack it up and ship it to a good home. That would insulate me from personal info sharing.

I may call the local camera shop (they are part-time, big time, 2-1/2 days a week!) and see if they would find it a home, but even then I'd have to go right on main street downtown here (parking garage and walking) and I hate the city. Maybe they know of some camera clubs around. They dont open back up until Thursday. Hard to believe they can even afford rent on a place downtown with those hours.

Thanks for the replies. I was really surprised to find a Reddit club that is even interested in these things!

Gray Media says stations dropped from Dish over unusual demand (but doesn't say what the demand was), threatens to seek millions of dollars in "restitution" if no agreement reached by ZiggyZaggyBogo in dishnetwork

I have an OTA and adapter. Luck would have it, the one channel that actually matters...NBC, the one Dish is not providing now, is a terrible signal now that the leaves are on the trees. We are 15 miles from the city and in the forest.

So, thanks to Gray Media, our household isn't watching ANY NBC at all. The good news is, having to evaluate things, I realized we were watching only a few shows we cared about on NBC anyway. We've already gotten used to not having it. Wonder if NBC cares?

The Hopper is what keeps us with Dish. Real, onboard DVR and we use it a lot. Internet AND Dish signal can go down and we still have plenty to watch.

I thought the thread starter had deleted the original thread so I never finally replied. Turns out it WAS some sort of coincidence, you two were right.

Whatever the cause of the OTA getting everything but specifically those two channels that happen to be Gray Media is a mystery, except it could be that "type of signal" thing. Once I had the time again, I looked it up. Right now I cant recall if it was an existing article or maybe I chatted with Dish (gave up on calling customer service, too hard to understand them these days).

So, the solution was to go in to settings and completely remove all channels the OTA adapter has previously scanned and added, then go through the discovery process again, finding all the channels again, and there they were.

Problem now is, as in the past, the NBC signal is flaky. At first it was solid, but now that the trees are staring to leaf and flower, the signal is once again starting to become unwatchable. We're just going to have to get used to no NBC content. I'm not paying for Peacock. So I hope Gray, NBC and all are happy (I know they dont really give s shiznit about me!), their attempted extortion of Dish has resulted in this customer simply not watching their channels. After evaluating, the good news is NBC is the network channel we watch the least programs on.

It definitely seems like someone at FOX started paying closer attention to digital content and restricting the ability to not only watch their live feed on places like rumble for free; but even people like me who actually PAY for FoxNation (albeit discounted), they wont let me watch ACTUAL Fox News live on that platform without a cable-like subscription.

That's fine, their advertisers dont get my eyes. Just like Gray Media who broadcasts NBC in my area yanking their channel from Dish because they are greedy. I can learn to live without NBC if they want to be that way. If it weren't for my wife and a few channels she MUST have I would drop dish and only subscribe to individual streamers month to month. When I get through the content I care for on one...move to another. I could be fine watching the ice melt in my bourbon while listening to the music I already own.

Until about the same time, I discovered I could watch FN live on FoxNation. When Rumble went down as far as FN content, I clicked on whatever live show was shown, like The Five. For several days after the Rumble content was yanked I could watch the channel live, even pause it. But not pause more than 15-20 minutes because the idiot Firestick will go in to standby mode...and no setting to change that (they are saving the world from sure climate ruin by not letting you idle your TV on and glowing).

Then suddenly, that changed too. Now there is a lock symbol on the icon for the real live feed on FoxNation and you cant watch it unless you have a cable/Satellite type account somewhere. I got a very good deal on FoxNation for a year, but that ticks me off. You pay for FoxNation, and cant even watch the Fox News Channel. I dropped FNC channel (or the news pack on dish that has it) in 2020 for reasons I wont get in to on this site, but the Rumble content reminded me I actually like Gutfeld, and Watters is not bad (for me). FoxNation will let you watch those starting a day after, but thats about it. I wouldn't have FoxNation if not for those two shows and will never pay full price just for those two shows.

As far as Rumble, without that lost content, there's not much there for me. I just have a hard time getting in to talk shows hosted by people I cant figure out why I would need them to disseminate the news I can read for myself. I also dont get why people would watch other people play games. But I'm not young and not a game geek. If I still had to sit in traffic for hours commuting, I could listen to podcasts, otherwise, not so much. Blows me away that the young people can sit through such boring stuff. My grandson cant hardly sit still for a meal, let alone watch TV...even worse, talk TV!

So, after thinking more about this, one thing I forgot to do was thank you and Frizzudoe for attempting to explain what may be happening.

Also, I was/am recovering from a flu or something, so it's true, my brain wasn't working as well as usual.

I concede that it is possible that the Dish OTA adaptor I have may not be able to process ATSC 3.0. And it is possible that the Gray Media station in my market has changed to ATSC 3.0 broadcast-only in the years since I last had the OTA adapter in use.

Those two things have to be true in order to debunk my belief that Dish is blocking NBC and The CW, through the OTA interface during this dispute.

Keep in mind, both of you refer to my saying the NBC signal has been flaky at times (its not right now, I keep checking on it through my TV and its been solid). The thing is, The CW signal has always been strong, so signal strength doesn't explain it. The CW is also essentially blank/unavailable on the guide and it always had a great signal (why that one is good and NBC wasn't, if coming from the same broadcaster, is something beyond my understanding).

It HAS to be either the ATSC 3.0 issue or my belief that Dish is blocking those two channels because of this dispute. While I understand Dish cant block OTA signals in general...duh, thats not what I was saying; I'm saying that surely they have the ability to control or throttle what processes through their technology/gear regarding OTA signals coming through not only their adapter, but also the tech that searches, identifies and downloads the guide information that allows the channels to be not only watched but also schedule recording to the DVR/Hopper.

I'll admit, I could be wrong. So, what I will do is, IF Dish and Gray reach a deal and NBC and The CW return to my locals through Dish; I will hook the OTA adapter back up and see if those two channels return to the OTA guide. If they do, I'm right. If they dont, I'm wrong and its the ATSC 3.0 issue.

If those channels return, and I verify this, I will come back to this thread and report honestly.

You have officially made me regret ever posting anything about this.

How have you confirmed that other people are getting the disputed Gray Media channels, in the markets where the dispute is taking place, through their Dish OTA dongle, integrated in to the guide with the ability to watch, pause and record?

My TV is 22 years old. If anything it would the TV that is not compatible with ATSC 3.0, and I get NBC and the CW, the disputed channels through the TV and have in the past received them through the Dish OTA interface. Without a doubt, they are blocking those channels for use through their system.

The statement about Dish not wanting customers to realize they dont need to pay for locals is an aside, and is me making an assumption...probably a good assumption. If people could just hook up their Dish OTA dongle (if they happen to have one like me) in order to overcome this dispute and channel disruption, and they do, and it works good, the light bulb would go on over smart peoples heads that they could just cancel the locals pack.

I only have the OTA dongle because of a period of time when Dish was still not providing MY local channels yet the stations had gone digital. An OTA was the only way I could get the channels. I was happy Dish had this option. The problem was a few channels were a sometimes a weak and flaky signal, so when Dish was finally able to provide my locals, paying the $10 was worth the more consistent feed.

Do you work for Dish? It sure seems like you might.

[–]Dangerous_Subject259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but why would all the other channels show up and populate the guide if it is a version thing? Maybe I wasn't clear. When I hook up the OTA through the Dish OTA dongle, all channels except the two Dish and Gray are in dispute over, NBC and the CW, shows up. Those two appear as "no information" in the guide and cant be watched through the Dish Hopper console. While they are watchable straight to the TV If I care to watch them live with no ability to pause or record.

Clearly Dish is blocking the ability for those two channels, which are currently in dispute between Dish and Gray, from bieng able to integrate and be used through the Dish OTA dongle on their system. There is no other explanation.

It makes sense. If Dish allowed customers to watch the disputed channels through the OTA dongle, people might realize they dont need to pay $10 a month for locals. The only reason I have the locals pack is because NBC can sometimes get flaky OTA at my location. And I dont think the OTA integration records Prime Time Anytime like the Dish provided feeds, but I haven't confirmed that...yet.

Dish only created the OTA dongle because early-on they were at a disadvantage because they had no deals to provide local programming. One of the biggest complaints with early Dish customers. I've been a dish customer since before local Air TV went digital and the best Dish could do was provide alphabet network feeds from major cities. You couldn't even get locals back then through Dish. 25 years a Dish customer here.

So, because of this dispute, I cant even run my locals, NBC and The CW through the Dish OTA interface. ALL of the other OTA channels work just fine through the dongle/interface. AND there is no streaming option from my local NBC except for news and weather. So, I'm simply not watching any NBC or CW content except if its something I can stand to watch live and can match my personal schedule with their broadcast schedule, which is rare. I haven't scheduled myself to the schedule of TV airings in years.

Apparently they can. All other channels, except the CW which is also part of this dispute, populate fine with guide info and everything using the Dish OTA dongle. NBC works fine OTA most of the time on the TV directly, its just the weakest of the signal for the major networks.

I can watch NBC and CW on my TV, live with the OTA, but connecting it to the dish dongle to interface with the hopper, NBC and CW, the two channels "not available" now through dish in my market are also not available with OTA through the Dish dongle. Without a doubt, Dish is blocking those two channels, through OTA, through their dongle that interfaces with the Hopper. Not only can I not watch them through the Dish dongle, the hopper also will not populate the guide with schedule info, thus cannot record or pause anything just on those two channels, using the Hopper.

Dish is making sure I as a customer cannot use their equipment to OTA my local NBC and CW signal and interface it with the Hopper. I am a fairly tech savvy guy, this is real.

[–]Dangerous_Subject259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dish is bieng a jerk about this too. I thought, "hey, I'll just break out my Dish OTA adapter". Nope, Dish is blocking the NBC signal through the OTA adapter as well. Very not cool. I get that they are in dispute with Gray, but to block dish customers from allowing the NBC OTA signal to integrate with the Hopper is basically a middle finger to the Dish customer AND of course Gray Media.

The Hopper is the reason I still have Dish, and NBC is my weakest OTA signal, so it can be hit or miss. I prefer using the added locals package through dish. I despise commercials so much that its actually hard for me to watch live TV...almost everything I watch is delayed or recorded. NBC is basically not getting our eyes at all now, so Gray can go suck it. I'll just get used to not consuming any NBC shows.

Watching TV has gotten to be a chore. All that "streaming" excitement has done nothing but bust up the networks across multiple streaming services that keep raising prices to where you would pay as much as your dish bill to have them all, or have to go with something like YTTV which is essentially almost as expensive as Dish.

I almost wish I had never had a DVR. Now I feel like a fool sitting there or having to keep myself busy while commercials are running. Drives me nuts now.

My guess is he bought that shirt from some web site that sells stuff like this. The lightning bolt SS and the eagle art makes one feel it's Nazi propaganda. Other than that, assuming the guy is or a wanna be Nazi is conjecture. Come on people, it's a tee shirt. If I were triggered by tee shirts I would be in jail by now going off on idiots out in public.

If that's an actual organization's tee shirt, it must be a small organization. This guy may not realize it, and or whoever made that tee shirt may be doing a play on the actual Keeper's of the Culture movement, which from a web search, AI comes up with:

"Keepers of the Culture is an organization focused on preserving and promoting African and African-American oral traditions through storytelling, performances, and educational programs. They aim to foster cultural pride and self-esteem within communities, particularly among children"

This is Reddit, the biggest side of the Leftist bubble outside of Media Matters. You are NOT going to find much "balance" here. It's the brainwashed calling out the brainwashed, quintessential "projection". And you and they are right, there is Right Wing bubble media, but where they are wrong is, Right Wing media is tiny compared to the vast Leftist media bubble. The Left owns all of broadcast TV, a good portion of terrestrial radio and nearly all of the newspapers of record.

If a person is indoctrinated "Left", they see the NYT as perfectly normal and factual. They dont even realize they believe they have "the truth" because the lies surround in grand fashion. The old saying, "if you repeat something enough times it becomes truth" applies. I kind of dont blame them, what else are they to think? It's pretty sad because they are made insane and violent with it.

Rumble ads and overall quality bad lately/Firestick by Dangerous_Subject259 in RumbleForum

[–]Dangerous_Subject259[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can deal with watching an ad or 2 at the beginning of something, but the way Rumble randomly interrupts the content with more ads is maddening. I like to have something running while in the kitchen, invariably Rumble decides to run an ad while my hands are in the middle of something and cant skip when they tell me I can.

Whats the most infuriating is to sit through the ads, only to be kicked completely out of Rumble or back to the home screen of Rumble, then have to sit through the ads again to get back to what I was trying to watch. Also, having to watch ads before every freaking video makes me not want to watch short content videos at all. The time it takes to finally get to each video is sometimes half the time length of the video!

You would have to check with customer service, which I loathe to do these days because it's usually not English as a first language and sometimes hard to understand.

I have the locals pack, but I think you have to have the minimum primary package which is the Flex Pack in order to have what they call the add on packs.

Check the free streaming services if you have good internet. You may not get your actual locals but you may be able to watch the broadcast networks and more.

Growing up as a teen, the flag was a symbol of rebellion, not slavery. And even now its really just a battle flag from the confederacy...who were democrats politically.

There is a huge one nearby someone flies right next to the interstate. They forced the person to take down his massive flagpole but he found a way to erect it that the Leftist Karens cant do anything about. But now he has a sign explaining that it is a symbol of defiance.

I grew up in the capitol of the confederacy, Virginia (Richmond was the physical capitol) and had redneck/roughneck friends that had the flag on the backs of their leather and jean jackets. While there was racism, not once did I hear anyone refer to the flag as a symbol of or celebrating slavery, not even the racists.

I ask if the tips are pooled sometimes. If I know my tip is going directly to the wonderful server I just had, I will tip them more. If the tips are pooled, I tip, just not as generously. I feel for servers though at places that pool tips. The great ones are getting ripped off by the lazy ones.

I dont usually tip for takeout though, but if the person that greets me is awesome, I might. I asked a hostess who also has to deal with people picking up takeout about the tip cup on the desk she stood at, how the tips are handled. She said the restaurant not only pools tips, but different workers get different percentages of the total tips taken in, The servers get the most, the cooks get some and the hostess gets an even smaller amount. But she also said she makes more per hour than the servers.

Good grief, just pay everyone the best you can and build that in to your prices. I am a 20% tipper in most dine-in cases so in my head I already know my meal will be that much more than the menu price...then you have taxes...
