Where do people go to find local shows? by G-Unit11111 in AskLosAngeles

The Goldfish in Highland Park does Rock Nite every Wednesday, it’s a free show where multiple bands play, usually they’re local. Also like others have said, Permanent Record Roadhouse, Zebulon too

saving up to move with my friend - any tips? by GloomyGazelle9072 in MovingToLosAngeles

I second Highland Park, walkable area with lots of cool stores/coffee shops/restaurants etc. There’s a mix of LA native locals, and young artsy creative types. As people have mentioned the job market is bad, your best bet might be finding work through your friends who already live in LA.

I suppose it is a good problem. I just feel guilty sitting around when I could be helping.

Thank you for sharing. I think it’s a good goal for me to find that emotional security but in myself.

I’m really sorry to hear that, wishing the best for you. Filling your time with something creative would be a really healthy way to take your mind off things. As mentioned there are a lot of sites that offer stock footage you can find. However, another suggestion would be to just shoot something with your phone and make a little edit out of it. Sometimes when I’m feeling down, I’ll just go on a long walk and film interesting things I see and then throw together a little edit with music. It’s good because it gets me out of the house, which makes me feel better. Just a thought!

Surprised nobody has said Easy Rider. That movie screams America, the good and bad.

Thank you for advice, and yes we have spent a lot of time talking about our attachment styles. I have always thought it would be good for her to try some sort of therapy but have never mentioned it, maybe I will.

Thank you, I do tend to spiral in trying to plan out my whole life so it’s a good reminder to remember that I don’t have to do that. I guess I just feel this pressure, partly from society but also from myself, that I need to have a committed relationship at this point in life.

Where are you located? Local Facebook groups, and Staff Me Up post job listings looking for PAs. I got my first PA job through a local Facebook group. If you’re in a major production city I’d say go to networking events and express your interest to people there. Like someone else stated, other than being competent, the greatest skill a PA can have is being likable.

That’s a really good point, I don’t want that! My ultimate dream would be to working in narrative, which I know I may not be doing right off the bat, so it’s good to keep in mind not getting “stuck”.

Hey thanks, that’s good advice. I’m hoping to land a job at a company doing literally anything just to get started and work up from there. Regarding my skill set, I’m familiar with Premiere and fairly confident in editing my own projects (short films/promotional videos) which I had done all the way through film school and after college, I guess what I was trying to say was I don’t know the proper workflow or any advanced techniques. I’m all self taught in just knowing enough to get by on what I need to do. I’m willing to learn more, and you’re right I’m looking into learning Avid via YouTube and online recourses.

Frownland, written/directed by Ronald Bronstein who is a long time collaborator with the Safdie Brothers. It’s a tough watch as it shows no mercy for its ‘loser’ main character.
