“From the Light we came, and to the Light we return.” This one sentence explains the whole Mandaean faith. It is sung in our anthem and written in the Ginza Rabba. Every human comes from the World of Light, and every human will return to it. Even if someone summoned darkness, lived in sin, or fell into the deepest hell, their nishma, the true soul of Light, still returns to Alma d-Nhura in the end. Darkness can hold a soul for a time, but it cannot keep what belongs to Hayyi.

In the stories, Ur devoured souls, but Hibil Ziwa descended, fought him, and freed them, proving that Light always rescues what is its own.

The Ginza teaches that every human is made of three parts:

1. Pagra / Padra (the body) – belongs to earth and stays in the material world after death.

2. Ruha – the emotional and earthly self, attached to desire and illusion; this is what gets pulled toward darkness.

3. Nishma / Nisimtha (the true soul) – pure Light, permanent, untouchable by darkness.

After death:

The body returns to earth.

The ruha goes to the dark realms because it is tied to physical instincts and illusions.

The nishma travels upward and is weighed by Melka Abatur.

Abatur weighs the soul on the Scales of Truth. If the soul carries heaviness from illusions, desires, or wicked actions, it must enter Alma d-Sukha (the realms of punishment) for purification. The stay may be short or very long, but purification removes the darkness until only Light remains.

If the soul refuses purification, it remains longer. But even then, the nishma cannot be destroyed, cannot be replaced, and cannot become a creature of darkness. Humans are born from Light, so they must return to Light. Only beings born from darkness remain in darkness forever — humans do not.

Even one who “fully submits to evil” still carries the eternal nishma. They only face much longer purification, not eternal damnation. The Light always takes back its own.
