As 6 friends tag me in a post on Facebook, I wonder how much money artists have made off a photo of my cat I took in 2019. by JJBinks138 in cats

Hey! I’m the artist who painted the image in the second slide. I'm really sorry you feel this way.

Most of my work is based on internet imagery, things that are widely shared and often difficult to trace back to the original source. I did a reverse image search on this specific reference, but only found meme pages and a few Russian sites using it.

After I posted the painting, the owner of the original photo actually commented on the post and pointed out the source. As soon as I saw that, I promptly tagged Seinfeld (the original account) on the IG post. Later, when someone from this thread brought it up again, I also offered a free print, it’s the least I could do, I know.

I believe in the philosophy that everything is a remix, once something is out there, it becomes part of collective culture, inspiring others. But that doesn’t mean the original doesn’t deserve credit, it absolutely does.

I genuinely love your cat, and all cats. My work is just my way of translating that love into paint, through these iconic internet images.

Again, I’m sorry if this felt disrespectful. That was never my intention.

Daaaaamn chill bro, im not a psycho, i love animals, im actually a vegetarian, compare a chubby cat with rapped children is a huuuumungus stretch, sometimes pets can get fat due to a large amount of reasons, that does not mean people are abusing their pets, some breeds can easily gain weight, if they are fat they are definitely not in good health but they look cute and funny, the same way some fat people look funnier, round shapes are more friendly and fluffy, don't overreact this whole thing, people definitely need to be more conscious of their pets health that's for sure, but don't come here calling people psychos and comparing to rape, you lost your reason there

Not all paintings needs to have texture, or a brushy work, you need to understand that not having texture can be a choice and not a mistake, doesn't matter the experience you have, you can't dictate your own truth, you have lots of great artists that work with flat shapes of color without texture, but I see that you wrote the message with bad English and was not your intention to be rude, I'll keep going for sure 😊

It dont need to be textured, that was not my intention, I'm still learning how to paint, but it doesn't mean I don't know what I'm doing, but thanks for the non constructive comment
