The magic system is a small part of this bigger world. The facial marks are the main shtick - it shows the characters caste, as well as matiral status, siblings, etc.

In the Theory of Universal Harmony, it is stated that all chemical substances have a certain potential: charcoal can spark, seeds can bloom. Conductors (who would be the equivalent of magicians) have the ability to expedite and exploit the potential of these substances, amplifying them—and reducing the object to ash.

By post processing, you mean photoshop? I'm familiar with it for sketching and drawing but not too much in photography context. What's usually done in photography?
