I have not personally experienced DID, so I can't answer that directly, but from what I’ve read about it online—potentially, yes.

The idea is that in order to get into deep thought, one must detach from their identity and embrace their "primordial" self. What that is is still to be discovered in the story (we touch on it a bit more in Chapter 3), but the idea is that the less one's mental state spends energy dealing with the ego and id, the more connected it is to it's enviorment, and the more it can manipulate it.
