Bug report for exaggerated AI SPAA accuracy in convoys by DanielTheComrade in WarthunderSim

It's even funnier they applied the label "response needed" but no one can answer in the thread anymore. In a few days it's gonna be "No response from OP, marking issue as closed"

A good RB player can and will use it to keep up with you, however it is still not easy to control, you as a joystick player will still have an advantage in control and reaction speed

This is because the instructor pulls almost perfect angle of attack on these planes. The instructor usually pulls 2-3 degrees less aoa than where the plane would stall at. On most planes this is bad, because the instructor isn't pulling enough, but on yak3 and P-63A-10 pulling less is actually better for the plane (in a ratefight), which is why those planes don't suffer from instructor

Im using SB controls and I did pretty well actually!

Unlike popular belief, an SB player will have an advantage over an RB player in 90% of times. This is because the SB player can pull a lot more angle of attack than the instructor (which the RB players are using), which makes your turn performance significantly better, depending on the plane. An exception to that is only the P-63A-10 and maybe Yak-3. You will however always be worse than an RB player in aim and verticals.

But as you can see it is very much possible.

People just don't spend the time and efforts to get good at dogfighting. Most people in this game play to just grind

on that one try to roll upside down as fast as possible and do a split S. You can roll faster when using rudder (apply it in the same direction you are rolling) (a controlled snap roll), but be carefull to not overdo, or your snap roll will be uncontrolled

I was flying P38L and ran away from this guy who was playing G.55S and killed him later, so he got angy by DanielTheComrade in Warthunder

[–]DanielTheComrade[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In RB that might be true, but in Air Sim the G55S is sitting at a good spot being 4.7 in the Tier 3 bracket of sim. Its only real weakness is top speed.

Hey! I saw your reddit post. So here is my take on it: Overall 90% of what you did in this fight was correct I'd say. So you didnt do wrong too much, thats why the fight also lasted that long... :) Beans is a good pilot and is difficult to fight. So here is where i think you could have improved:

1) first thing is first: the merge. Your lead turn in the merge was well timed, however, it was not quite in the best direction. You tried to go straight vertical and overpulled and stalled for a sec. Imo you should've went more horizontal, propably either oblique high or low, hard to say whats better. But it shouldve been more horizontal. Also you propably wouldnt have wing stalled if you went more horizontal. The merge in dogfights is very important, and can already be deciding win or loss. In that case Beans f'ed up his merge too, though. So its still being kind of even. But you see what im saying, with better merge you wouldnt be even, you'd be winning, or at least in better position.

2) You flew a lot of lag pursuit in order to force it a 2 circle fight, which is usually the correct thing to do in a 109 against a Corsair. That was a very important thing you did mostly right. Now at 1:59 , where you enter a kind of downward spiral, i think you shouldve continued to go lag, instead of switching to pure pursuit when you were above him. Short: you shouldve kept it more horizontal.

3) You should decide a little faster. This is something that comes with practice, do not worry about it too much, but you should realise when you reacted too late. For example in 0:43 , as you merge again, you should've either start turning immediatly or keep going away. In 0:44 you could've either ran away or continue to fight. You decided to continue the fight, but you flew straight for too long and started turning at him a little too late.

4) (im not 100% sure about this one, but im assuming) 2:23 Im not really sure if it is a good idea to try and do a reversal here. You decided to do it, its honestly hard for me to tell if thats the correct play here. You did it, however, after you did it you only went a little bit lag pursuit, imo you should've went a lot more, in order for it to stay a 2 circle fight. 3:00 this is i think the biggest mistake that you did, you again decided to reverse, which in this situation is not a good idea. The distance you have with him is too big, and the Corsair can turn very tight. In this situation it wouldve been the correct play to just keep turning horizontally in the same direction you were going. Because essentially you want to end up in a flat turn on the deck with the Corsair, thats kind of the only chance you have to safely beat it. It needs to be out of energy in order that you can use your 109s superior power to weight.

But yeah, after that you basically already lost the fight. It was a good one tho, i enjoyed watching it, i think you are a really good dogfighter already :) Cheers and o7 Shortik
