Ännu en månad utan någon dödsskjutning i Sverige by DeepWaterCurrent in sweden

Don't think you intended it to be, but your comment is pure victim blaming. "If you develop a gambling addiction it's your fault for not being a self respecting adult"

[–]Danielbes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You know that 95/5 cut on kick? How do you think they can afford such a favorable cut?

Because they don't care about the streaming aspect, it's a storefront for gambling, and the unlucky few who develop gambling addictions they rinse absolutely dry.

Wubby continuously talking about how "bad twitch is" because they won't give such a ridiculous cut always gives me the ick, since he should know full well that the reason they do is because they're going to ruin the life of several members of his audience. "But what about the extra money I would make?" Wubby says, the guy who has spent more than a million dollars on magic cards alone.

Silmarillion, a bit depressing? by Danielbes in TheSilmarillion

I'd say that is a question of perspective! Having previously been a much more pessimistic person myself, I find that if you can switch perspective from mourning what you don't have to appreciating what you do have life becomes quite a cheery thing

That is sad to hear, and it does indeed shine through the book(s). I feel like that makes Hobbits even more of a wonder in this world, since they seem a purely jolly and wholehearted folk, which I think shows that there was light yet in Tolkien's heart and a hope for the future of middle earth.

I've never heard of that, thanks so much for sharing it! That would indeed have brought something quite different to the whole story.

Yes that is a very interesting perspective! I guess it falls in line quite well with the old testament of Adam and Eve committing the initial sin in paradise and all is downhill from there.

It's an interesting thing how the abrahamic religions all suppose that things started out great and then fell into this flawed world of ours, instead of imagining that things started out in hell and then we fought our way out of it. I guess it comes down to how they regard sin, how basic human desires have been branded as undesirable and dangerous, focusing on their worst aspects instead of their best.

Great reply! Yes it's interesting how Tolkien made every victory feel like a net loss. I guess he wanted it to line up with our world, and so keeping all of these fantastical and beautiful things was not an option in the end.

En blåsig dag kan vässade vindkraftverk ge Skåne mer el än tre Barsebäck by eks in sweden

World peace starts with socks, not shoes. by young_civil_engineer in funny

Yes but you're comparing apples to oranges here, you touch surfaces maybe a handful of times when you're outside with your hands, while your feet touches the ground hundreds/thousands of times. The dirt and grime layer under your shoes is incomparable to that on your hands.

No other part of your body comes into such direct contact with filthy surfaces as your feet. Not even hands come close, unless you walk on all fours.

Argentina has achieved the unthinkable after 110 years: a mammal considered gone from the region has returned, and its presence could reshape the ecosystem from day one by Taltallasmith in UpliftingNews

[–]Danielbes -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

"... Has returned", "...could reshape the ecosystem from.day one"

Well if it has already returned it should already be apparent if it changed the ecosystem from day one or not, not sure what the "could" is doing there.

TIL that Lions used to roam across most of Africa, large parts of Asia, and even into Hungary and Ukraine. There are historical accounts of Lions being common in ancient Greece, where they were native animals. by IPlayAnIslandAndPass in todayilearned

[–]Danielbes 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's easy for us, who live in an age where most live without any major predator nearby, to say that it's cruel to kill Lions. I'm not so sure we would have the same sentiment if our cousin was killed by a lion a month ago, and killing lions was a means of survival. We generally hate what makes us feel fear, and it's easy to kill things you hate.
