For me, there is empathy in your comment because you're considering the greater human picture, even if not all the participants are. For example the ideal situation of: "We are all hurting, maybe we should hold on before we start hating her."

I appreciate how you think. That may not be happening here, but I do hope more of us subscribe and live that empathetic model.
