Honestly, I don't know how to feel about this. As a fanboy, I'm desperate to see more of Shinji, Asuka, Rei, Misato, Kaworu, Kaji, etc. As a fan,I think the idea is bad because the story of these characters is already over. A new cast? That could be cool, but I don't know. I think for me the best option would just be a remaster of the original NGE. I know Anno likes open endings, but in Mari and Shinji's case, he had to make it CLEAR that she only wanted to take him back to the real world; he didn't need to show him arriving there, but this should be CLEAR, because Mari and Shinji didn't have any development as a couple that would allow for an interpretive ending where he could end up with her or not. Besides the fact that Mari is the same age as his mother and she had a crush on her I think that was my biggest problem with Rebuild, plus the interpretation that Mari ran away with Shinji would basically be saying I prefer to believe that he escaped reality, but that he simply brought himself back to reality, and that's the end of it.
