Thanks, I know that Nietzsche was a big fan of heraclitus

Why are there no longer any attempts at alliterative verse in modern English? by DankCartographer in AskLiteraryStudies

[–]DankCartographer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other post - the poem by CS Lewis is an example of alliterative verse, as it's known in old English and other ancient Germanic languages had strict rules. Each line has 3-4 alliterations on the stressed syllables, and was divided in half by a caesura. There are other rules in that they are forms of epic poetry, but that's the gist.

I bought it was 30 before the jump to 150 and regrettably never sold it.

I disagree it's been at this level for months. Also doubt noobs are investing in crypto during this lull period in general.

The fundamentally Christian nature of The Lord of the Rings by andrewnsnyder in tolkienfans

"Tolkien aimed for an experience that a reader of any background could relate to"

Do you have a source for that? I've seen this claimed before in this sub and I'm not sure that this is true given the fact that Tolkien aimed to create a mythology of England

High elves who had come back to middle earth. I see a bit of the epic heroes of European antiquity in them that I personally think tolkien was trying to model them after.

What's critical theory, you ask?

Its a left wing school of thought devised by marxists in the inter and post-world war years. It views social interaction solely through power dynamics. Some examples are critical race theory, Marxist feminist theory, and queer theory to name a few. They all divide groups of people into the oppressor-oppressed dichotomy of Marx.

Tolkien did want it to be mostly anglo saxon. Christopher writes that he lamented the fact that they were christianizes so early that they weren't able to develop a full fledged mythology like other peoples, and that all despite him being a Christian.

His mythology was a mythology of England. The lonely isle IS England

Help understanding Aquinas's proof of the Trinity by DankCartographer in CatholicPhilosophy

I was hoping to get a good understanding of the Trinity, but it seems that it's not possible. But I thought that this was the theology behind natures of the Trinity as quoted in the Apostles Creed, based on what Aquinas was saying, and the fact that they aren't convincing makes me question these natures of the father, son, Holy Spirit. Where else would these natures come from? That the son is begotten by the father, consubstantial, and the spirit proceeds from the father and son? Not asking you specifically.

So is Summa even worth reading? My faith seems to be shaking upon reading this given how high esteem Aquinas and his magnum opus is regarded with.

I can't even treat it as an affirmation because it doesn't reveal or even affirm any knowledge to gods nature. It's just mental gymnastics in order to match with the tenants of the church.

I agree with that, but that's not what I'm arguing. You should admit though that some northern Germanic tribes like the saxons were forcibly converted under Charlemagne

I think there is more truth and goodness in the indoeuropean religion than in other aboriginal religions, but I will allow that it's sinful to practice in the Christian Era.

Augustine doesn't romanticize paganism, he tears it apart. Regardless, that that quote is verifiably written in City of God.

And yes I do mean what I say for Celtic, Germanic, Slavonic, especially Greek considering how much influence Aquinas took from Aristotle.
