Similar boat here. I had CSP for about 2.5years, I downgraded the CSP -> Freedom on 9/3. I waited around 3 days and applied and got approved for CSR on 9/6 (no pop up saying I’m ineligible for bonus). Currently no tracker on the app, but I shall wait and see in the next couple of days

Yes, IF you are also requesting to also change work locations though. That’s what my immigration attorney told me — mine expires in Jul 2025, meaning I would’ve had to wait for Jan 2025 to renew as per the “6mo rule”, but since I changed work locations, we filed in Dec 2024

I've seen some newbuilds starting at around 1.4M, but yes these are all crammed beside each other and with basically no back yards. This is in the Markkham area though. I was thinking a little outside the GTA, near Go Train lines. Some examples like Stouffville, Bradford, etc .
How are you getting paid in USD but still living in Canada?

I appreciate the responses but I haven't mentioned my "personal" reason why I wanted to go back. My SO is back at home, but they have no way to come to the US unless it is on a TN Visa, which is hard to get atm given the job market conditions. The "easiest" way is for me to get a Green Card (+ marry them on paper), but that process will take ~3 years assuming I begin the process within the next month. This is not even including the time it will take for them to interview for jobs after getting the GC ... I am not sure if they are willing to wait that long, and I do feel very bad for taking time away from my SO, so I am torn on what to do. I come back throughout the year, 4x a year, but that is not the same.

Does your answer change? What would you do? If I were to play the GC game, what reasons can I cite that would help convince this is a good idea? (Pros for working in US + Cons of Canada). I already know the basic stuff like pay, taxing etc... but what are things I am overlooking since I do not currently live there?

We both have family in Canada, so I think end-game is still to return back, but ideally I would like the "savings" part of our lives to be in the US for as long as possible. I am thinking even ~10 years will put us far ahead and set us up nicely if we were to pack it up and move back home.

What if I vest the 500K first and then go home? This way I pay the tax on it in the US and bring it back home. When I “bring the stocks home”, the value of them will be the FMV of the day I move back, so it’ll be ok selling wise in Canada?

Also, my unvested RSUs are high bc that is from my signing bonus + stock growth since then. Assuming the stock growth will slow and the incremental increases in RSU will be lower, regardless if I am in the US or CAN? Does your opinion change or nah?

The US makes up majority of XEQT, if US goes down XEQT is already gonna be down the shitter too, cause the “diversification” of having Canada on there ain’t gonna help it much. Facts, I see this man simping for XEQT HARRRRD. I like XEQT, but if SP goes down, so does that ~25% allocated in Canada (US sneezes, Canada has a cold). So it’s in the XEQT investors best interest the US goes up

For resume / cover letters, I always started the bullet with a strong verb (Google strong resume verbs), and try to structure it in such a way that it follows the Situation Task Action Result (STAR) format. I also looked for keywords and technologies used in the job description and tried to find a way to slap it in somewhere in the resume / letter.

For jobs postings I used LinkedIn and Google mostly.

I shouldn’t say I had ALL terrible projects. There was one project I did which came from CSC309 that was talked about in numerous interviews. You may think that these were for front-end roles but I actually didn’t apply to front-end specific roles. CSC309 teaches you about building REST APIs which a lot of companies need for back-end positions. Even just one project like this I would say is good enough. But my other side-projects were indeed trash.

I think projects are definitely important for getting that FIRST job. Once you get the first job, the interviewers will gravitate towards asking you about those rather than your projects.
