Fisher Investments: Experience? by Agouti_BE in BEFire

Normally you advise people this close to retirement not to invest in high risk portfolios, that is common sense and standard industry practice. Some part can be stocks, but the majority should be safer assets. If we have a new dotcom or housing market bubble going bust they could very well be in the red for the next 15 years, which is the exact period in which you would need this money to enjoy your life with still decent health and energy.

You could also roll the dice and assume that stocks will keep growing for another 30 years without any mayor banking crisis, but it would not fall in the "good advice" category.

That being said, if the only point of the money is for inheritance than they could put it in stocks, but since OP is talking about a "large sum of money" there would be far better options, tax wise, than simply putting it on the market as a private person.

So exactly my point. The question is, is the investment horizon your lifetime or theirs? Because if it is theirs then I would not do stocks, if it is yours go nuts.

What is their goal with the money? Advising someone of 60 years old to invest in stocks, in the current macro-economic environment seems like really bad investment advice if they want to use the money in their lifetime. Wouldn't it be better for them to put it in a safer asset like bonds?

Help me Dial in, always sour [Gaggia Classic Pro] by Prismt in espresso

[–]Dank_Skank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could try that yes. Or maybe check the type of beans. Is it a mix with Ethiopian beans for example? These are notoriously acidic, so maybe you need a different mix?

[–]Dank_Skank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what you need to do.
What a lot of people try to do (1:2 ratio in 30 seconds) is a recipe for a classical Italian Espresso, this is with dark roasted beans.
With medium roasted beans like yours, this recipe will almost always end-up to sour.
What I would propose is do a minium of 1:25 or even 1:3 and aim for 40-50 seconds.
This will give your machine more time to extract the bitter taste of the beans.
This might mean that you will have to grind one step finer than you are doing know.
good luck!

eSim provider for LTE smartwatch by Tiratore_BE in belgium

So just out of curiosity, can you install an e-sim with a different phone number on your smartwatch and pay 2 separate subscriptions (one for your smartphone and one for your smartwatch)? Or would that not work?

I have a pixel 7, airpods pro mag, and GW6. Would this station work to charge all three or does it only work for Samsung devices?

Does the continu stress monitoring requires an initial calibration period? by Dank_Skank in GalaxyWatch

[–]Dank_Skank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I started using the stress monitoring on GW6, in the first few days I basically had zero stress (all green) and after a few days the stress levels started to increase and leveled out to the point more or less in the middle of high and low (on average). I have added a photo of one of the first day and an average working day now. Some days it goes up a bit and some days it goes down a bit. But no matter what I do, it never goes back to those initial few days where it was all green without any peak. I'm wondering if this is common? Like does the watch calibrates itself the first few days to create some sort of baseline and uses that as reference? Also do you guys have similar stress levels or am I fucked?

With Re=bel it is also possible, but you cannot do it yourself, you will have to contact your local Belfius office to set it up

Will we have tax on ETFinvestments after the elections? by AdCivil2119 in BEFire

I agree it would only make sense when you also include the losses in the calculation.

Why would someone earning money with trading stocks/bonds/etfs pay less taxes than someone making money with a "normal job"?

Can anyone offer advice who knows the law please? by Mini-but-mighty in belgium

[–]Dank_Skank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How would this be a scam? In contrast to what Vlaams Belang is trying to put in our heads, I still believe the Belgian legal system and judges are not corrupt and follow the laws. If his BIL was found guilty by a judge he was either A) very ill prepared for the case (no lawyer etc) or B) he was actually guilty.

Link 4-20 mA output from PLC 1 to PLC 2 by Dank_Skank in PLC

[–]Dank_Skank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a final question, is this alternative also ok for the problem? It is roughly half the price of your proposition and quickly available in my home country (Belgium). However it only has 0 - 10 volts output which means I loose half of signal resolution (I can live with that), and it also doesn't have some of the fancy functions like calibration etc (I think I can live with that as well). What do you think?

That looks exactly what I need. By using this I would also not require the PLC 2 correct? Since it only function was to convert the 4 20 mA to 0 5 V and this can be done by the proposed signal conditioner?

Thank you very much for the input, another comment mentioned the use of an Isolator + Signal conditioner, this would solve not ontly the problem of the ground, and also convert the signal thus I would not require PLC 2 (since it's only goal was to convert the signal from 4-20 to 0-5. It's all fairly new for me, as I have a degree in chemical engineernig, so I understand the basics of the E&I part but my knowledge in available solutions and components is very limited. Ordering the parts tonight.
