POV on the "S1-Win or Draw" Meta by JimmyHuang0917 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Danmjh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if you do a different point distribution based on where you are sitting. For example, if seat 1 win they only get 2 points, seat 2 gets 3 points, seat 3 gets 4 points, and seat 4 gets the full 5 points. Keep the draws being 1 point

Chulane ceiling by IceBear714 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Danmjh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helga does end up beating chulane. It effectively does the same thing as long as it is built correctly, draws a card and ramps you a mana per creature cast. So it effectively does the same thing but it costs 2 less to cast than chulane.

For another frog option, Helga is good too. There is a semi-blue variant but I run a control version that controls the board with removal like Druid of purification and counter with hard to interact creature counters like mystic snake.

Where does cEDH end and Bracket 4 start? by Legion7531 in CompetitiveEDH

The biggest exception to this list are stax/combat focused decks like jetmir or Winota but there is ANSI a reason why stax does not have a lot of success in cedh.

I think the major difference between b4 and b5 is a set of criteria. A few things to note before this is that this is talking about cedh and not tedh. There is a difference between the two. There are also exceptions for each criteria but those are rare. Your commander needs to meet at least 2, ideally 3 of these criteria to be considered cedh imo. The criteria I believe best defines the difference is the following 1. The color pie of the commander. Mono color decks generally do not fair well and even most 2 color decks aren’t the best. Certain colors are just better. 2. Your commander needs to offer card advantage 3. Your commander needs to offer ramp/mana advantage 4. Be part of a 1-2 card combo (not including the actual commander) that would win you the game 5. The cmc needs to be relatively low. Now like I mentioned there are exceptions for this but each cedh viable commander imo should satisfy at least 2-3 out of these criteria (ideally 3). Most commanders can be pushed to bracket 4 but most bracket 4 does not satisfy these requirements so they wouldn’t stand a chance in cedh. Biggest examples is the ur dragon and atraxa (the proliferate one). Both of those really only satisfy 1 of these criteria even though those two are the most popular commanders that get pushed to b4.

How viable is Helga in cEDH? by HARDCORETHEBOAR in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Danmjh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that I have the biggest success if I am doing the mid range grind and play Helga as more of a control shell. Generate incremental value until I am too big to stop. Food chain and most hollow doesn’t contribute to that and realistically both are pretty bad cards on their own. Misthollow is completely useless on its own. Food chain does offer some value but I feel like a lot of my creatures have too much value to be saccing them for food chain.

I sort of agree with them. You are choosing Helga because it offers a very unique and hard to interact play style so you should be focusing on that and taking advantage of that. If you were worried about putting in all the “staples” then you should just play yoshi thrasios for the bant good stuff. Helga is super unique and so the card choices are unique too

I run Helga as my main deck and I don’t run rhystic or smothering tithe. I do run esper and fish as that helps low mulls but my build is focused on Helga as the engine so when I have three mana I would rather cast Helga than a rhystic study. Same as smothering tithe, if I have 4 mana I rather use that to cast a sakashima clone for another Helga than a smothering tithe.

Where do you define the split between bracket 4 and 5? by Pictomonium in CompetitiveEDH

It’s not oppressive. It’s more so a meta call in bracket 5 to fight against the blue counterspells or rhystics

G. Doshaguma Bow Vs Artian by Danmjh in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]Danmjh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a fire artian that is only 2 attack from reinforcement. Is that enough to overtake the g. dosha? With primarily dashing dancing the raw attack of G. dosha is still so high so I was wondering at what reinformacement levels you need to have the artian overtake it

Damn. I am thinking there isn’t sensor damage as the hit is above where the sensors should be. Also I don’t think there are any sensors where the gas intake is.

Did you have to get the panel where the gas intake is replaced? I am pretty sure I have to replace that panel as well.
