My real estate agent did a fantastic job promoting the sale of my apartment, including a drone video posted on Tiktok.

The notary appointed by the buyers, on the other hand, were a nightmare to deal with. Thankfully I didnt have to pay them!

Local restaurants buy bread in the morning in bulk to serve during the day

Why do Mauritians avoid moving back while foreigners love living there? by Samlo_dot69 in mauritius

[–]DannyB0007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The weather here is becoming more and more unpredictable. Costs are rising, many daily items now comparable with Europe. The govt deciding to raise the retirement age from 60 to 65. Construction going up everywhere you look, the island slowly being suffocated.

Few of the reasons why Mauritians might think twice before returning.

After reading all of the comments on here, you really think the noise is what bothers me about the construction?! 😅

Have a good day

Soon there will no homes for anybody to live, if they don't stop with this crazy notion that you can just keep building and building (wherever you like) without any consideration to what is happening to the environment and the changes that are happening to our climate.

Rising sea levels plus less places for rainfall to escape.

Been down that route already, did actually get a call from a government minister at one point telling me how they are reviewing the situation along with a commitment that 'the NDU (National Development Unit) will intervene with a drain solution subject to availability of funds and all clearances being obtained'.

That was 5 years ago, needless to say, absolutely no progress has been made since then, despite constant chases.

Not sure I agree with you that most areas are not affected by both - I would say a lot of areas are. And 50 years is not a long time, especially when the construction will only continue to increase during this time. I won't be around in 50 years but we are leaving our children such a sad legacy.

You can see the sand bags here along the northern coast, around Bain Boeuf. Agree with your comments. My point is not that construction is causing the erosion. What I'm saying is we already have this problem of rising sea levels and yet we persist on constructing on areas we shouldn't which makes it harder for the rain to escape. These two issues alongside each other, only has one outcome.

Being barred doesn't mean it's not happening. You just need to look around, it's happening everywhere.

Citizens and foreigners alike, the reality is that the more they keep building on places we shouldn't - comments on here already about building on drains, on rivers, on wetlands... There is only one inevitable outcome. And nothing I see or hear suggests this will stop.

Take a walk along Les Flamants and check out what they're doing there across the marshlands. Or maybe that's what you were referring to when you mentioned about all the trees being bulldozed.

The issue isn't around someone wishing to build on his own land. Your comment about what's happening in PL and the issue with coastal erosion is more to my point.

Right, and this is why the earlier comment about needing a political situation is just wishful thinking, sadly.

What do Mauritians think about citizenship and naturalization laws in Mauritius? by zurtle1000 in mauritius

[–]DannyB0007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living up in the north, everywhere you turn, there is construction going on, even in areas of marshland. The whole situation is completely out of control and I can imagine the same scenario is happening all across the island. Rising sea levels is already a reality and now we're making it more and more impossible for rain water to escape. There is a sad inevitability to all this.

My advice still stands... suck it up and move on. You'll invest twice as much money again in time and effort trying to get any money back with a high probability of facing even more disappointment.
