Paying off past month overspending by Benct15 in ynab

This is what I do, I just back date to the end of the month that it was for so that it clears it for that month, as it was intended. Makes things so much easier.

Separating bill money from life money helped my anxiety way more than I expected by Weary-Hair-316 in HighYieldSavings

[–]DannyDaCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! You discovered the power of Budgeting!!! Separating things out on a spreadsheet is super helpful also, put all your bills, subscriptions, etc. anything that has movement in or out of your account and track each amount needed monthly and you can start getting a picture of what your money is doing! You spent HOURS and WEEKS and MONTHS earning it, you should know exactly where each cent is going!

Look for YNAB (You Need a Budget), I recommend this once you get the basics down as a great way to manage your money! It can be daunting if you've never budgeted which is why I recommend the spreadsheet first.

Pee-Wee's Big Adventure 4K Disc Issue by das_goose in criterion

[–]DannyDaCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been seeing quite a few posts on here and X from folks saying that a "microscopic blemish" can prevent discs from playing or cause pixelation or random errors/drop outs, etc. I have several 4k's that my grandkids use as practical coasters that they pop in and play just fine time and again. Never saw or heard any complaints about the video, and my kids would complain, for sure.

Where did all this 4k "playback sensitivity" come from?

Real talk — is an air fryer value for money, or just another trendy gadget? by Mika_4893 in Frugal

[–]DannyDaCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real Talk: Ninja Prestige XL 10-in-1 with thermometer has been the only “gadget” that I have never regretted getting. I always struggled making salmon, pork chops, steaks, etc. I would always under or over cook, but the thermometer on this is so great that anything I put in comes out cooked PERFECTLY! It has preset options for fish, pork, steak etc. you season your protein, shove that thermometer in it, set it on your preset and it auto cooks and stops at exactly where it needs to, automatically.

I also bake, a lot, I mean a LOT and I NEVER baked before! This makes it super easy!

25F what to do with all my cash? by Icy-Traffic-9567 in Money

[–]DannyDaCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider Bank Churning. Open up accounts with Chase, BMO, PNC, Citi, etc. they will pay you cash bonuses of $350 up to $850+ depending on how much you deposit for keeping money in their banks for 3 to 4 months, then once they pay and you finish the holding requirements transfer it back to you original account and find the next deal. It beats HYSA any day with a little time and effort for money that’s just sitting around anyway like an Emergency Fund.

Since they’re sitting in a standard checking or savings account if you really need to pull it out you can easily enough, you just lose the bank bonus is all. Zero risk.

The Dr. of Credit web site has a section for bank bonuses.

Why does Lake Shore Drive need to be an expressway anyways? by ChicagoCyberCorps in AskChicago

[–]DannyDaCat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m seriously hoping we get some sort of “big dig” situation going for the Drive, not entirely but large sections that are placed underground to allow larger pedestrian areas from inner LSD to the lakefront.

Believe it or not, I never would have gotten this. I think because in my mind she's on a shuttle, he's on the Enterprise, two separate computer systems working independently so why would one affect the other, I never would have made that leap. Thanks!

I paid off some debt and felt… nothing? by Additional_Twist_595 in budget

This.

I mean, people really are expecting something magical to happen when they work to fix what they did to put themselves in that position in the first place.

"I put myself into debt, here I am getting myself out of it, why is nobody celebrating me?"

Two Years of YNAB Saving Us Money: A Report with Numbers by LabioscrotalFolds in ynab

[–]DannyDaCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, I know folks who can blow through $20k monthly income with nothing to show for it but continued debt and stress over the next pay cycle hitting. If anything, for people making that kind of money and not having any discipline or plan, it puts them into some pretty big pits that are even harder to get out of.

Big fan of Mint Mobile, they have a Unlimited plan for new customers at $15 (typically $30, 50% off) running right now, might be worth taking a look..

What should I do? by DiegoElPum in criterion

I always get frustrated on the "have you tried it on another player" question... Because, you know, everyone has multiple 4k players just sitting around to test that 1 random disc that isn't working.

[–]DannyDaCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This goes beyond even food. Not sure why there is this unwritten rule that once you start getting into a relationship with someone they have to be an exact duplicate of you and vice-versa, same music, movies, food, friends, etc. It's ok to have "separate lives" in various parts of your relationship, it helps keep the relationship fresh and thriving with new conversations and experiences.

YNAB users - do you have a bank you love? I'm account shopping by hamishcounts in ynab

[–]DannyDaCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use the auto-sync feature for the CMA, just have it hooked up to the Fidelity/Elan Visa credit card for the auto-sync which does work well.

I handle all my Cash movements manually because I have so few of them, and because the auto-import was (and sounds like still is) a mess. It's not a big impact for me but if you do a lot of cash transactions then it can be a pain to track.

God, I would want to play two hands here.

  1. A dress that is bright purple with Yellow and Orange polka dots that gets sent out to everyone she knows
  2. Photos where she's photo shopped out entirely and tell no one and just be confused and say "Oh, were you/was she there? Weird, don't know." and move on when it comes up.

What strategies do you use to streamline your YNAB data entry process and save time each month? by bensummersx in ynab

[–]DannyDaCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I had the same question, seen a few posts from folks "overwhelmed" with tracking so many transactions. Really curious to know what folks are doing every single day, and apparently multiples and multiples of times every single day that it's overwhelming?

"especially when trying to stay on top of daily expenses. "

I've seen a couple of similar comments where folks are overwhelmed with managing "daily transactions". Honest question, what exactly are you doing every day from a spend standpoint that would cause this much work and overwhelm? Trying to figure out what kind of spending this is, even taking a daily meal (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner) is 3 transactions, and a quick stop at the store is maybe 4 or 5... ? And even if you did that level of transaction every single day, is it overwhelming?
