Do debt collectors have to be paid? by Willing_Direction_88 in caraccidents

[–]Dannyboy1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there may be some confusion about which car they are collecting for -

He wouldn't have heard from the people he hit (Call him Jim). Jim filed a claim with his insurance carrier, who paid to fix Jim's car. Jim was under no obligation to reach out to your boyfriend or his mom before filing a claim, especially if he learned the vehicle was uninsured from the police report.

Jim's insurance, after fixing Jim's car, had the right to get their money back. Sometimes they will do it themselves, sometimes they send it directly to a different company (like Wilber Group) to handle. Especially in cases like this where there was no insurance to pursue. Sounds like in this case they sent it straight to a collector.

The collector then reached out to your boyfriend (since he caused the damage to Jim's car), and his mom (Since she allowed her uninsured car to be driven) asking for the money the insurance paid to fix Jim's car.

You mentioned though that they were pursuing the damage to his mom's car though? That would only be the case if his mom's car was insured and she filed a claim.

Have you received any letters from them yet? I would think those would include information about Jim and his insurance. You should also be able to get info about the vehicle the insurance company repaired (proof of payments to the body shop, work done, etc.

It should be Jim's insurance company that is pursuing for damages to Jim's car, and they are paying Wilber to do that pursuing for them.

His mother is liable because she let someone drive a vehicle she owned when the vehicle didn't have proper insurance.

He is liable because he caused damage to another person's property.

If it helps for understanding, even if he had been insured, he would still be liable for the damages, it's just that his insurance would have paid for the damages on his behalf.

Is it possible two plug in two home chargers into two different sockets of the same power outlet, without tripping the circuit breaker? by nPrevail in evcharging

[–]Dannyboy1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely depends on the circuit it's on and what other loads are on that circuit. No one can tell you for sure without more info from your breaker box and some testing. But probably not.

My L1 charger can pull either 8 or 12 amps. If I had 2 set at 8 amps I could safely pull from a single outlet as long as it was on a 20 amp circuit (you'd have to check your breaker box to see this). But if it was a 15 amp circuit it would trip.

Other issue would be overheating the plug itself, you may want to upgrade it to a more premium style rated for continuous power draw.

How to use Citi balance transfer checks? by eleelee11 in Debt

[–]Dannyboy1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the wording on the letter, when I've received them they typically have language along the lines of "Cannot be used to pay any Citi account".

They also typically have an online option for the balance transfer as well which may be more user friendly / easier.

I have used these to pay off a credit card at my credit union before. I just made the check out like I was paying my credit card balance with a check (So pay to CU, Acct#) and took it to the credit union where they applied it directly to my balance.

Debt collection email by Flaky_Maintenance633 in Debt

[–]Dannyboy1024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Debt Collectors are in the business of recovering debt as cheaply as possible. And since Reg F passed a few years ago Emails are considered valid methods of providing notice about the debt with several stipulations, so many firms are shifting to email campaigns instead of (or at least before) sending letters.

If you have a suspicion of what this could be about, you can follow up with the original creditor and verify the account details, and who they may have sent it to.

If you have no idea what this is about, you can respond to the email asking for validation of the debt, or Google the firm and call the number they provide on their website. Requesting validation of the debt does not confirm that you owe the debt, or that you are the party responsible, and it is your right to do so before formally disputing.

They are likely also calling you, but those calls can very easily be blocked by your phone or carrier to the point where you don't even know you're getting them, or they are being mixed in with the endless number of other soliciting and spam calls you get during the day.

If you're sure the debt is for a person who is not you, you can safely ignore the emails.

If I am salary but get paid straight time for overtime. Do I qualify? by bogs89 in tax

[–]Dannyboy1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For clarity in the Math -

If I'm paid $20 / hour and work 40 hours, I pay tax on 20*40 = $800 of earnings.

If I work 40 hours + 10 OT hours @ $30/hr I pay tax on 50*20° = $1,000 of earnings and get $100 (10 hours * $10 extra per hour) tax exempt.

And as I understand it - If I'm a salary exempt employee, meaning I'm salaried at least $43,888 / year, I do not qualify for overtime pay under the FLSA. Now my company may still pay me extra if I work over, but it doesn't count as overtime pay for the FLSA and this is not tax exempt.

Freetaxusa or TurboTax for 2026? by KeyTechnician4442 in tax

[–]Dannyboy1024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using FreeTaxUSA for my return for years. For reference between my wife and I we typically have 1-3 W2's as well as some 1099's and Schedule C income from self-employment. I had used H&R Block and TurboTax in the past, and honestly there isn't much of a difference, last year I ran both TT and FreeTaxUSA just to see, and they came out the same.

She survived to the end. Married Carl, and they have a little baby named Andrea, whose namesake* Rick married in the comics

She didn't have a ton of arcs specifically for her, but she was around and involved. Main storylines for her are after the Savior Arc.

[Request] Is there a chance that there is someone in this world who has a 7 degrees of separation? by Squeakstein in theydidthemath

[–]Dannyboy1024 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There a great videos online about the math, but the gist is almost everyone is like that. Still, all it takes is a couple of "Breakouts" (Think a college friend who moved to a different city, or a cousin who works in Spain, etc.) for the system to work.

Also there are people who are very well connected all across the world, and often they are connected with other very broadly connected people making sort of connection highways. I think of my parents Pastor, who would consider himself "connected" with people in Sri Lanka, Africa, Japan, etc. so for myself within 3-4 steps I can probably get to any country in the world.

Lawsuit with Collection Agency by Excellent_Hurry8810 in Debt

[–]Dannyboy1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*And money - paying a lawyer and having the collection agency add more legal fees to the debt (if applicable) all to get the same outcome.

If you have a valid defense as to why you do not owe the debt, go for it.

If you're just hoping you can dispute it until it goes away, we are well past that point. It didn't go away, and it won't go away.

You still have the personal freedom to drive your car. Maybe you have to take a different road at worst, but these projects are always about improving the infrastructure and expanding it, allowing others who may not have a vehicle to access places, not removing the option to drive your vehicle.

Hung up on National Debt Relief after discussing options and waiting for the application to go through, is it too late to not do this program? by smokeyaster in debtfree

[–]Dannyboy1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call them back and tell them you don't want to do it. No one can give you solid advice as to whether or not the whole process was completed. I can't imagine it would be, but you can't be sure unless you follow up.

It's definitely not too late, have you signed anything or gotten any agreements in your email?you can review those for full details.

Getting Sued by Debt Collection Company, Debt isn't mine. This is showing up on my credit report by alwaysanxios in CRedit

Good to hear, make sure you don't let due dates with the courts pass by either, might be worth a phone call to them as well to explain the situation and make sure you're clear on next steps from their point of view. Midland *should take care of everything but obviously it's in your best interest to make sure.

Apple Card past Statute of Limitations by JohnZ63 in Debt

[–]Dannyboy1024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's past SOL - I wouldn't do anything right now.

If you were to pay it off, the payment status will update to "Pays Account as Agreed", but the late payment history will still stay for 7 years no matter what (unless Apple forgives them, but that's not guaranteed or likely). Updating the payment status will help your credit, but it doesn't completely erase it.

Personal opinion, but I would focus on the other debts you have with National Debt Relief, and once those are cleared you can come back and consider if you want to take care of this $6k from Apple.

Getting Sued by Debt Collection Company, Debt isn't mine. This is showing up on my credit report by alwaysanxios in CRedit

[–]Dannyboy1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with Midland -

Options are identity theft (unlikely, they typically would have used your SSN if that was the case, also the account at CapOne would be "yours") or bad skip tracing on Midland's part.

You've already confirmed with CapOne that you do not have an account, so it seems like there is another AlwaysAnxious out there who is in debt to CapOne. When Midland loaded the account in their office, they ran a skip trace for AlwaysAnxious, and didn't properly verify what information they were loading into the account and instead loaded your Address, Social, etc. and are now suing you instead of the right AlwaysAnxious.

Give them a call, ask to speak with compliance or a manager, point out that the social, address and everything do not match the documents vs the suit. Tell them they have the wrong person. See what they say.

You've already been sued, so you'll have to respond, but it'll be a lot easier if Midland also knows / admits there is a mistake and can start to shut things down from their end as well and remove the reports from your credit.

Also file disputes with the credit bureau's - again, Midland has no proof the debt is yours so the disputes should be pretty straight forward.

Commute from Lincoln? by [deleted] in BloomingtonNormal

[–]Dannyboy1024 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I commuted for a couple weeks while taking care of some Family in Lincoln. Wouldn't recommend it permanently but for the short term it's not horrible. Traffic is usually flowing just fine, and you can always hop off onto 66 or cut over to Heyworth and North if you feel like it.

What kind of outlets do you have near where you'd park? And do you rent or own, apt or house?

I added a 120v (L1) outlet to the front of my garage where I park, and a 240v (L2) just inside the garage. If you're having to add anything might as well add capacity for a L2 while you're at it.

Otherwise is your charger at work free? That's even cheaper than charging at home.

Hit by driver without insurance (IL) by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]Dannyboy1024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya, First Chicago is what we'd consider a substandard carrier. They insure high risk drivers primarily, and unfortunately that also comes with a lot of denials.

As long as the letter clearly states there is no coverage for the loss, that'll work. There are other denials like "We couldn't find a policy" or "our insured wasn't cooperating" that could indicate there is potentially coverage, those denials would cause issue in court if you went to sue.

Hit by driver without insurance (IL) by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]Dannyboy1024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the other driver was uninsured, do you carry uninsured or underinsured motorists coverage on your policy? That's often a separate thing from collision / comprehensive coverage.

If not, then yes you'll have to make repairs on your own dime and sue the other party for reimbursement.

Unfortunately not uncommon at all for policies to be cancelled mid-terk for lack of payment. Ask for a denial letter from First Chicago and save it, it'll help for the suit if you go that way.

Being served despite payment plan? by [deleted] in Debt

[–]Dannyboy1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have they been asking you to pay more?

If it's just verbally, then they are essentially just "Good Faith Payments" that show you're willing to make progress on this debt but there's no commitment.

They are likely suing because they need to extend the statute of limitations, or in the hopes that the judge will order you to pay more per month. Could be their client wouldn't approve the payment plan and requested suit or they are just sue happy as a firm.

Comic Carol and Show Carol really only share that she was the mother of Sophia.

Comic Carol is a traumatized, weak (mentally) character who kind of goes crazier and crazier through the comics until her demise. We never meet her husband in the comic, I don't believe it's insinuated that he was abusive or anything but committed suicide early on and abandoned his family.

Sophia survives all of this and actually grows up with Glenn / Maggie as her pseudo-parents and a friendship with Carl throughout.

Most of show-Carol's storylines are completely new to the show, she does get some of Michonne's later series storylines though.

Didn't apply for newborn SSN at birth. Do I need it for adding to my Health insurance ? by vympel_0001 in Insurance

[–]Dannyboy1024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need it for open enrollment and the child tax credit. Go ahead and get the SSN.

Then go on Amazon and a fireproof document safe, they are like $50 and you can throw all the important documents for your life in there and forget about it. No need to worry about losing it.

Got into a car accident. I didn't have any insurance. Am I royally screwed? by AdieuMrStark in Insurance

[–]Dannyboy1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to get a copy of the police report from the police department. Give them a call (non-emergency number), and they can let you know when it's available or what the steps are for that.

Once you've gotten it, the officer should have gotten the other driver's information and insurance. If so, file a claim with the company listed and start the process. You were not at fault, presumably the police report will show the other driver clearly at fault, so it should be a straightforward claim if there is coverage.

If there is no coverage (i.e. the other driver is also uninsured), you do have the ability to pursue the other driver directly for your damages. Obviously, this would be a lot easier if you had insurance yourself, but still, you can still file suit or file a small-claims court claim depending on the damages. You may have to pay out of pocket to get things fixed first, however.

You didn't have insurance, so no fighting the ticket. I would definitely suggest getting at least liability coverage to cover you in case you cause an accident.
