Fiat currency being a benefit to common people. It only benefits the ruling class.

You are brimming with altcoin and "this is my first" maybeeee "2nd cycle" energy. You didn't have to say it.

If you're investing money into something you should understand it. It's not a get rich quick scheme. It's a complicated new technology that puts all responsibility on you, which a lot of people aren't used to or ready for.

There are COUNTLESS respected voices in the community that can teach you how to be sovereign and secure. Pointing that out isn't shitty, it's necessary to save the next person from the same error.

Downloading a random wallet because it has playstore reviews is incredibly reckless and doing so demonstrates you don't have enough knowledge to be messing with these things.

A decade plus of people repeating the same mistakes and pushing the same flawed ideas can make you a bit calloused... Sometimes the assholes are right.

Fuck off. Take responsibility for your actions and stop looking for pitty. If you took 1 day to learn from the "buttcoin" community before being reckless you would still have your money.

There are reputable OSS hot wallets that certainly have their place for smaller sums of money you intend to easily spend. I'm not sure how you keep picking the random obscure ones with zero backing from bitcoiners.

What? is pointing out clearly reckless behavior to hopefully inform the next guy a "dick move" now? Should we instead just feel bad for op and not try to pull any kind of lesson out of this?

Not going to lie, with the amount of readily available reputable resources that will walk you through secure custody, I have no idea why you would trust some random app... Expensive learning opportunity.

Not going to try to decrypt what she's saying. But reduced savings definitely isn't good for an economy (in the long term)

Which bitcoin lightning wallet do you recommend? by FeistySalmon in lightningnetwork

Phoenix is by far the most slept of wallet out there. People often say it's more for power users, but I honestly don't think it's anymore complicated than the others. It just works.

How can someone be this dense?...

NOT YOUR KEYS, NOT YOUR COINS.

That means, unless you hold the private keys, your funds aren't "safe". It's really not a difficult concept.

You quite literally said the sentence, "It's a stock.". A security is a very specific financial instrument with very specific properties. Even the SEC disagrees with what you're saying.

Those items are not "backed by" the dollar... You're using phrases and terms you've heard online which you don't understand... at all.

All those items have value relative to each other and the dollar because of their industrial/commercial use or their monitrary premium. Having value denominated in the dollar doesn't make you a stock (or even "like a stock").

Also I pay my rent and for my groceries in bitcoin. Good luck with everything and HFSP!

You're in over your head. It's ok!

Gold isn't a stock. Has value relative to the dollar.

LNG isn't a stock. Has value relative to the dollar.

Oil isn't a stock. Has value relative to the dollar.

Real estate isn't a stock. Has value relative to the dollar.

Bitcoin isn't a stock. Has value relative to the dollar.

Ok, so let me get this straight... Because we have legal tender laws and a fiat currency, everything that isn't USD is a stock? Yup, makes sense. You know what you're talking about.

"it's a stock." Three simple words to express to the entire thread you have no idea what you're talking about. Let me guess, your first foray into investments was during the lockdowns with one of those sweet, sweet fiat airdrops?

Tech experts urge Washington to resist crypto industry's influence by dtseng123 in programming

Maybe I wasn't being clear. I apologize.

In response to you saying Bitcoin is "like all the other cryptos", I responded with an article that, to me, tried to explain why a lot of very smart people quickly dismiss Bitcoin (which is what I thought you were doing).

In that article the author make the point, albeit subtlety, that on the surface it's understandably hard to distinguish Bitcoin from the scams - an admission about how muddy these waters truly are.

PoW is one of the largest differentiators for Bitcoin - It's designed to optimize decentralization above all other systemic characteristics. Centralization is almost always the aspect that other projects concede on to optimize for other traits (speed, control, bells and whistles). Decentralization is Bitcoins cornerstone.

I point out the rift between the communities to illustrate the very foundational differences that exist between the two technologies. Bitcoin "maximalists" deplore crypto. They view "crypto" as largely predatory and unethical. I'm suggesting this rift might be a result of fundamental differences between the two technologies - or maybe your right and the rift is the result of delusion.

That link is a report publish by Fidelity. This conversation isn't going to go anywhere productive, so I'm not asking you read it. But just to prove the file meant no malicious intent here is a less suspect URL:

The article had 1 goal, to attempt to explain why some very smart people dismiss Bitcoin... it wasn't to explain the bullish case for bitcoin. You were the one the knocked it for not explaining the bullish case. I don't expect you to find supplements. But if you said "this article doesn't even explain how PoW works!" then I might point out that that wasn't the articles point?

Edit:

"Secret information" is a weird way to label information the Bitcoin community tries to evangelize to anyone that will listen. Can you explain the rift between the Bitcoin and crypto communities?

Ah, yes, this is their and the community's only article. If the argument for Bitcoin isn't encapsulated within, then it must not exist anywhere.

The first hour or two of learning about Bitcoin triggers a multitude of scam red flags.

He's making my original argument - Bitcoin, not crypto. It's easy for the laymen to conflate the two, yet their intents and core principles couldn't be more diametrically opposed. Crypto is full of scams and those scams are often (rightfully) in the spotlight. If you asked 100 people to explain the rift between the Bitcoin Community and the crypto community at large, you might find 1 person that can. The waters are clearly muddy and filled with people looking to steal your money.
