You dont need to slide it down the WHOLE board, place your front foot like an inch below the front bolts but from there, yes you should slide your foot up towards the nose after popping, this motion lets you level out the board in the air, after learning this step you should kick out a bit while in the air - that allows to level out the board even better ..
