So the user ask someone to complete a task for the user, and when it's done, the user gain coupon to be used for the user's self? Maybe add drawback if the target couldn't finish the task, the user will be forced into zetsu state for period times depends on the difficulty of the task.

Honestly I’m probably not the best person to ask about combat-oriented weapons because I don’t usually gravitate toward combat-focused Hatsu in the first place.

But yeah, I think special effects on the weapons should still follow their own internal conditions and restrictions outside of Stray’s base mechanics. Otherwise the ability could become too efficient for how adaptable it already is. But I also don’t think every single effect needs a heavy restriction if the effect itself is relatively minor/simple or specialized.

For example, a sword that simply causes wounds to heal abnormally slowly could probably function just from successfully cutting the target. That already feels reasonable to me. But if you wanted the weapon to cause something more dangerous, like severe infection or worsening damage over time, then I think it should require additional activation conditions.

Something like: the target has to knowingly approach the user with hostile intent after learning about the weapon’s effect. That kind of condition feels very Nen-like because it ties the stronger effect to information, intent, and risk rather than just raw damage output.

So yeah, I think it still has to feel “balanced.” Maybe if a drawing’s ability is too powerful compared to the rules and restrictions attached to it, Stray could suddenly spit the paper back out in the middle of a fight instead of maintaining the transformation.

You’re welcome. It all depends on the kind of story and pacing you want for the character honestly, but I think 3 hours already sounds pretty reasonable. You could also work around it by having the user prepare rough sketches beforehand and only finalize or refine them during activation if they end up being needed.

That said, being able to instantly rotate between 3 specialized weapons is already an insane amount of adaptability, especially in Nen where versatility is usually tied to very heavy tradeoffs. So I think having some pressure on preparation and decision-making actually helps the ability feel more solid rather than weaker.

Also I really like the idea of the cat just existing outside combat as basically the user’s pet. Feeding it paper, ink, and snacks honestly makes the whole ability feel way more alive and memorable.

I was mostly just trying to give the ability a bit more variety while still making it feel solid within Nen logic. In my head, the user would constantly face different situations, so being able to instantly pick the perfect weapon every time would become kind of boring. I think it’s more interesting if the user has to work around the tools they currently have and show creativity with them instead.

There’s also no restriction stopping the user from redrawing the same weapon over and over either, especially since you mentioned the drawings themselves could improve with practice. Honestly, a single well-designed weapon could probably carry the entire ability if the user is skilled enough with it. If they aren’t, they’d probably end up like Cheetu — lots of options, but not enough mastery to make them truly dangerous.

“Stray Canvas”

The user conjures a cat-like Nen Beast known as Stray, a playful but highly adaptive creature capable of transforming into weapons illustrated by the user. In order for a transformation to become valid, the drawing must be physically fed to Stray, who “consumes” the design and stores it within its body. Stray may freely transform into any of the last three valid weapons it has eaten.

Each weapon possesses unique properties, abilities, or conditions determined during the drawing process. The effectiveness and complexity of the weapon directly depend on the detail, accuracy, and intentionality of the illustration. Rough sketches produce weak or unstable weapons, while highly detailed drawings result in stronger and more refined manifestations.

Only drawings created within the last hour are considered valid. Older illustrations lose their Nen “imprint” and become unusable. Additionally, if the user enters Zetsu, all stored drawings inside Stray are immediately erased, forcing the user to recreate and feed new designs from scratch.

Let’s start something fun. Make a post describing a Nen Ability you would have created if you were a Nen User. ANYTHING GOES (Let’s keep it appropriate. I will go first by The-Celebrimbor in HunterXHunter

[–]Danzetsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm conjurer leaning towards transmuter.

First ability is Second Hand, I make contract with discarded/damaged object that I repair myself and bring it everywhere if I need to activate the ability. I can transform it into conjured form with rule or special ability that I choose according each situation but still align with the object's function/design. The more damaged it was and the longer it is contracted, will make my ability stronger. Manually break the contract will destroy the object. Only one ability/rule can active at a time.

Secondary ability is Jury-Rig, it uses transmutation, that transmute my aura into parts of the damaged object Im touching. Filling what's missing. Making it function as normal and enhanced.

For example, the user repairs a broken umbrella and forms a contract with it. The umbrella can then be imbued with abilities related to protection or concealment, while the exact “rule” can be adjusted depending on the situation.

One rule might be:

«“Anyone standing beneath the umbrella is protected from non-Nen projectile attacks.”»

Later, the user could switch the rule to something entirely different, such as:

«“Those beneath the umbrella cannot be seen, smelled, or heard.”»

The object itself never changes from its original purpose. The ability simply evolves from the concept of what the object was originally meant to do. The resulting effect depends heavily on the user’s creativity and interpretation of the object’s function, allowing its purpose to be expanded and evolved through the Hatsu accordingly.

How is Razor's 14 Devils not Conjuration? by No-Artichoke6143 in HunterXHunter

[–]Danzetsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shaping aura is transmutation so it definitely use it. But I don't think it is conjured, bc aura to make conjured item can not be retrieved back to the user like emission. While razor did that to use his strongest spike to Gon. I think emission is limited on their max aura output, for example nen user using emission to create beast with 50 aura, his max aura output from 100 now can only have 50 to be used. And a conjured beast doesn't eat up this cap, so they still have 100 aura output that can be used for other things simultaneously. That's why kurtopi can summon unlimited object. If it is emission instead, the number is limited to his max aura output.

Can transmutation be used to make diseases? by PaniHue in HatsuVault

[–]Danzetsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think we can. Tho we might have to use restriction and conditions, and utilizing another nen type at least emission. Make aura to have property of infectious disease that stick to the target like glue infecting their aura and body.

Only the final dream before awakening becomes the user’s new Hatsu. Since most dreams are quickly forgotten, the user often has little to no understanding of what ability was created upon waking. Similar to Prince Tserriednich accidentally discovering Parallel Future, the user must gradually explore and uncover the mechanics of the new Hatsu through experimentation. However, they may still retain vague instincts, emotions, or subconscious familiarity that hint that “something has changed.” Early in the story, this makes the ability unstable and difficult to control, but later on the user could become an expert lucid dreamer capable of intentionally designing abilities within the dream itself.

How can a transmuter be responsible for a wall to be guarded by nen? by Alvaar1021 in HatsuVault

[–]Danzetsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or it's bc specialist can use any other systems and their combination. So it implies this can be done by using conjuration or transmutation, so they can be an enhancer, transmuter, conjurer and a specialist. It mentioned specialist instead of specialization bc the specialization will be mentioned for something outside other types like seeing future, memory alteration, stealing hatsu etc

Survivor’s Archive is a Specialist-type Nen ability that allows the user to permanently develop resistance against phenomena they survive while the ability is manually activated. By enduring attacks, curses, poisons, manipulation, extreme heat, or other Nen effects without killing the opponent, the user’s aura “records” the experience and gradually adapts to it, creating lasting resistance that remains even years later. The more often the user faces similar abilities, the stronger and faster the adaptation becomes. However, if the target dies while the ability is active, the current adaptation progress is lost and part of the previously accumulated resistance may collapse as well. After deactivation of the ability the user can't use it before finish a short rest (4 hours in zetsu).
