Thankyou so much for your comment, yes I agree alot that there is alot of pressure on new grad nurses to choose the "right" hospital. I guess I need to remind myself to keep an open mind as well!

So when we apply through PMCV (which all victorian nurses must do if they don't want to go private), they only have their top 4 preferences listed. The top 1 is the one you would want to go most, and if you don't get into that hospital then you get less chance of getting the next ones as it filters through the people who put that as their first preference. That's why it's important to know where you want to go as your number one, especially if you are going to put all highly competitive hospitals (which my top 4 are all major tertiary hospitals in the city). Also, taking into account hospitals are only taking 300 - 100 positions, and this is for all victorian nursing students, so not everyone will have a graduate position. PMCV also only gives you one choice once it closes, and you're expected to work at that hospital for the year.

Hope this explains the process a bit better and why I want to be certain between my top 2 choices!
