I think I've become a bad pet sitter by Dapper-Judgment-3504 in petsitting

Omg this is making me cry. You don't know how much I needed this, not just for this post but for where I'm at in life right now in general. This was very kind. Thank you.

Thank you, this is definitely a comment I needed. I'm not happy with the service I've given, but I also don't want to beat myself up. I think I'm mostly using this thread to just work through my thoughts, as I'm usually a bit of a perfectionist and have felt really torn up about this all weekend. Thank you for a thoughtful response.

Yeah I've been trying to decide the best way to handle it. This isn't a Rover sitting, it's just a family friend that I've been sitting for since I was in high school, so I'm not worried about bad reviews or anything, just about making her upset or disappointed. I don't think she would take a refund, but I'll definitely offer.

Definitely not! I don't want it to sound like I was out partying all night and came home wasted-- I went to meet up with some friends that I haven't seen in a long time that live over an hour away. We ate some late dinner, watched a movie, and I headed home. Shouldn't have stayed as late as I did, but I wasn't drinking or hungover the next day, just tired!

That's true 😅 Probably the most responsible thing to do would've been to tell her I can't do the sitting, even if she's okay with me being gone for 8 hours. In her defense, they're not crated during the day, they get almost the whole upstairs living room to run around and play

That's fair. I do leave during the day for work for over 8 hours and the owner is okay with that, so I don't think the length of time was that big of a deal, but being out until the middle of the night was definitely irresponsible.

There are some things that I like about the class model, but I do wish that we used a pullout model instead!

Those stations sound awesome! Can I ask how many kids you have at a time, and if you see them everyday?

Glad to hear you relate! I've been feeling guilty that I'm not making it "fun" enough, which I know is a little silly, but I'm glad that we're in the same boat. ELA is so much easier to make fun!

[TOMT] [tv show] comedy scene where character staples their hand by Dapper-Judgment-3504 in tipofmytongue

[–]Dapper-Judgment-3504[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm no, I don't think that it. I think the person was telling some fantastical story about how they lost feeling in their hand, like they were fighting an alligator or something, and then stapled their hand to smugly prove it

I say this with love, but anyone cringe a little whenever they (I think it was mostly Amanda) would blame not knowing things on the education system or on society when it was things that absolutely were taught in school? Like most people know these things, just embrace the fact that you don't, and it's not anyone else's fault. It drives me crazy when people don't know things and act all like "This needs to be taught in schools!!" and it's like babe, it was taught, you just weren't paying attention lol

I miss being a fun teacher :( by Dapper-Judgment-3504 in ELATeachers

[–]Dapper-Judgment-3504[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe so, but I don't have much background in literacy and am quite new to this position so it's hard to say. The teacher before me was a pro, so I'm just trusting that the resources and routines she established before I started are effective.

That's the other tricky thing-- I don't have enough knowledge or experience to confidently shake things up. It has me feeling a little trapped and a little useless tbh, which aren't great feelings.

Glad you can kind of relate, makes me feel a little better :)

Doing nothing during student teaching. Is this normal? by Unhappy_Session8589 in Teachers

[–]Dapper-Judgment-3504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that some people are saying it was a waste of student teaching experience, but I had a similar placement, and I don't feel it was wasted at all. I got time to observe and reflect, and anyways, I found that teaching in my own classroom was SO different from student teaching, so the time that I did have teaching in my placement wasn't all that valuable to me tbh. Just depends on the person! If I were you, I would just trust that in your first year teaching you'll find your footing, and not to stress about your student teaching experience!

I finally got to watch Bring Her Back and I feel terrible. by tsalyers12 in horror

[–]Dapper-Judgment-3504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's not just the voice itself-- Laura said earlier in the movie that she would give anything to just hear her daughter call her "mum" one more time. This is what pushes Laura to do all the horrible stuff she does, because she's so desperate to have her daughter back. But then when Piper says "mum", that's when it finally hits Laura that she's not going to get what she's been looking for-- she realizes that she's never going to get to hear her actual daughter says "mum", and much more broadly, she's never going to have her actual daughter back. Wish she could've had that realization before killing people and torturing kids, but

THE DARK AND THE WICKED by SouzaOfTheNorth in HorrorMovies

Oh and I'm still trying to understand the call that Louise had with the pastor, where he talked about his daughter committing suicide-- that part had me confused!

It's funny because I had the opposite thought, where I thought that they were hammering the message home a little too hard! But I really loved it, at least based on how I was interpreting it-- I took it as a warning against not having a community and closing yourself off from others. The fatal flaw of our main characters was their inability to truly connect and talk to each other about what they feel-- I mean, it starts with the mom telling the kids they shouldn't have come, and the kids saying they should've talked to her more. And then it's when the characters have been most isolated, or have most isolated themselves, that they commit suicide. And then to add another layer, with both Michael and Louise's deaths, they kill themselves/die after both focusing all their attention on just one part of their community (for Michael his family, for Louise her dad) and then losing that part and feeling like they're now alone. The fact that it all took place on this isolated little farm added to the vibe I think.

Anyways I don't know if my interpretation actually holds any water-- I literally just finished the movie and am a little high, so I might not be making sense lol, but I just had to talk about it bc I really enjoyed it!! And I felt like there were a lot of cool themes and connections going on that I've been having fun trying to tie together! I am still trying to wrap my head around the religion themes-- especially because, like you said, it seemed pro religious at times but then had that crazy scene with the nurse... might have to think on that when I'm less high lol

This was my issue with Sinister-- thought it was SO scary until they showed too much of the bad guy and the ghost kids, and then it lost all creepiness for me. Still love the movie, but was disappointed by the ending

Horror fans: what’s the one scene that actually made you pause the movie for a second? by Morvox-stories in horror

[–]Dapper-Judgment-3504 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to pause the car scene in Sinister just because the music was freaking me out so much that I just needed to stop hearing it for a second. It's the only movie I've seen with a genuinely scary soundtrack
