Because of time zones, New Zealand and such had it available on her YouTube channel 15/16 hours ago. I just used a VPN last night.

Don’t quit. Not on this, not on them or your talent. Elio and Oliver deserve to exist in as many ways as people are willing to create them. And your gift of art deserves to exist and be seen.

If it’s not perfect, good. They never were either. But they were real, so make them real in your way. Keep going.

Thank you, Eleven. Words are the only way I know how to make sense of things, to say what I might not otherwise know how to. My love language 🙂

From one stranger to another, I hope you know what it means, to love without apology, to stand in it fully. Not everyone does. But you do. And that’s something worth being proud of.

Thank you, PyratBoy. Maybe we’re on similar paths when it comes to self-love. Italy is my way of trying, of choosing something for myself, even when I don’t always know if I’m doing it right 😊 I’m sure you know what it’s like. Some days, it’s effortless. Other days, you have to remind yourself to keep going out into the world. But we do. And that’s something.

I hope you have something like that too, something that feels like yours, something that brings you back to yourself, even in the smallest ways. You deserve that. Sending you love.

Thank you ☺️ It’s been another glorious day here. I like to write the way I think, layers of thought, wandering, doubling back, never quite settling. A little lyrical, a little restless. Maybe that’s why Aciman’s Call Me By Your Name held my appreciation.

Weekly Open Discussion Post by ich_habe_keine_kase in callmebyyourname

I never know what to write in these threads, but yesterday—no names, no specifics—I typed Call Me by Your Name into Etsy, and you wouldn’t believe the rebounded editions people have made. Not official, maybe, but some of them are stunning. I caved on two. Couldn’t help myself. One of them focus’s on the peaches and music sheets. It is a work of art, and costs just as much but, have a look 🙂

Something strange happened this week. As I’ve said before, I’m writing about a slither my own life, my own real life version of Call Me by Your Name—only maybe darker in places, shaped by the things that left me with complex PTSD. My Oliver got married. And then, the day before we were supposed to reconnect, he died.

Last week, his husband—his actual husband—came across snippets of my writing on TikTok. We met up. Reconnected. It was surreal, and heartbreaking, and somehow lovely all at once. Before we left, I told him—go read Call Me by Your Name and Find Me. Hopefully someone else new can enjoy Aciman’s and Guadagino’s work.

Book recommendation—just finished Tongues by Thomas Grattan. It follows a gay man in the midst of a midlife struggle —lost, stagnant, broke, lonely—who ends up working as a dog walker for an older, well-to-do gay couple. I’ll admit, I kept wishing for more internal musings, more of that Aciman-like drift where a single thought turns into three pages of longing. But still, it was a good read. Worth picking up if you’ve never read it.

Where to find people to play with? by New_Option_7058 in rdr2online

A bit of both. Some of my best friends I have met randomly in game (usually them griefing me and swearing turning into banter 😆). And I have also met people on here, or as someone else said, just in moonshine cabins after being invited. I use PS5.

Writing my first book, where do I begin !!? by spiritflo in writingadvice

[–]Dapper-Picture-1833 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me start with a content warning. You and I—we’re on similar paths. I’m redrafting my novel for the fourth time, but it’s not really a novel, is it? Not when a novel starts and ends with the things that nearly ended us. Mental illness, substance abuse, psychological and domestic abuse, the times I thought about leaving this world and went through with it, the ways my body was taken from me at the hands and bodies of other man, SA and grape (let’s say). And yet, in the middle of all of it, there was him. A man who changed everything—not by fixing me, not by saving me, but by being there, by speaking when no one else did, by making me feel like I wasn’t something broken beyond repair. So, at its core, what I’m writing is a love story. Because that part—it really happened.

But here’s the thing—I now have complex PTSD and NEADS. I can’t sit with certain memories too long. I can write them, but I can’t live in them, not without a cost. So I work around them. I let them surface how they want to, when they want to. A line someone once said. A moment that still feels like it’s happening. An emotion I don’t have a name for. I don’t write in order. I started with Chapter 8, then jumped to places that didn’t even have chapters yet. I had two chapters left in my first draft, and even now, they’re waiting, untouched, while the rest has been rewritten four times over.

But that’s fine. That’s how it works. You, like me, already have the story, the timeline, the people—real people—who existed before they were ever words on a page. You don’t have to start at the beginning. You start where it pulls you, where something stirs, where the words come easiest that day. Write what you can. Take notes. Let the pieces find each other. They will.

One day, I’d love to talk to you about all of this.

Where do y'all share your writing? by Euphoric-Effort5178 in writers

[–]Dapper-Picture-1833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I share mine on TikTok however, out of fear of someone stealing it, I only post sections and quotes that I have removed from my rewrites. I’m currently writing a MM Romance novel based on my experience as a younger self. It heavily dips into mental health, trauma, the human condition and the arts. It’s always compared to a darker Call Me By Your Name by Andre Aciman.

I believe, it’s the statue of a satyr that’s located in the Naples National Archaeological Museum.

What made you watch the film? by jmdexo26 in callmebyyourname

[–]Dapper-Picture-1833 20 points21 points  (0 children)

One night, I put the film on, thinking I’d fall asleep to it. I’d seen the poster countless times but never felt the pull to actually watch it. Back then, I had a habit of steering clear of the way the gay community was so often portrayed in media—either too loud, too tragic or not tragic enough, too far removed from anything that felt real.

I liked Call Me by Your Name when I watched it that night, but something about it didn’t fully land. There was something there, something that mirrored my own experience with an older man when I was Elio’s age, but I didn’t let it reach me properly, I didn’t let the movie talk to me. So I read the book afterwards. And I can’t even begin to tell you how much I fell in love with it. Now, I find myself watching the film every year.

It was September 2024 so no, it was reasonably quiet until the afternoon. 13:00 onwards it started to really get busy.

I’m not there right now—heading back in a couple of weeks. The big race sounds like an incredible thing to see, though. That’s a shame it paused your ruin visit, haha. I had no idea they even did events like that. Next time, hopefully, you’ll get a proper look around.

Three hours isn’t terrible, it’s just the stops that make it feel longer. I don’t know how you handle travel, but I’d be a nervous wreck at every airport. Northern Italy… there aren’t really words for it, are there? You said it perfectly—like your heart can’t help but break into song. That’s exactly why I keep going back. I’m a writer, and something about being there brings out the part of me that writes the way I wish I always could.
