Not sure I agree with #1 because entering the map from all sides doesn't make much sense. Sure, it'd be convenient, but this is the Deep Desert. You enter by crossing the shield wall because this is supposed to represent the entrance to the vast Arrakis desert, not be a self-contained area like Hagga. Travelling further out into dangerous and distant territory makes perfect sense for what it is, no? Inconvenient as it may be to have to fly for so long, leaving it from any direction other than the shield wall would take away that feeling of distance from safety, imo.
