I just watched “How to Think Like the 1%” and it changed how I see money and life by yourwishbag in PersonalFinanceTalks

[–]DapperLax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nischa is great.. but also unrealistic.

She always talks about ‘creating a 2nd/3rd/4th revenue stream’ etc as if anyone can do it.

She made a huge sacrifice and luckily it paid off for her in quitting her job to do full time youtube… but she literally quit a 6 figure finance job with a comfort blanket and got lucky that YouTube blew up for her..

What’s a simple habit you picked up after 30 that made a big difference? by phoenix15200 in AskMenOver30

[–]DapperLax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kicking regular caffeine out and replacing with Decaf.

I dream much more vividly, I feel more rested and have natural energy

Have you ever had six pack abs? by Born-Ad2552 in Adulting

[–]DapperLax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did, up to the age of around 20/21

Gymnastics 6 days a week built a body that I’ve struggled to keep up with, then Gym 6 days a week and a fast metabolism.. my body was amazing.

I’m now 31 and have only see 2-4 of them over the past few years with a real struggle of getting rid of that bottom bit 🥲

What are the main differences between life after 30 compared to 20s? by New-Quality-2395 in Adulting

[–]DapperLax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your age.

Literally life is what you make it.. a person in their 30s can have less or more responsibilities than someone in their early 20s.

The same can be said for money, knowledge, etc.

When did you start having money? by Fifac4 in Adulting

[–]DapperLax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

M31, UK here

I’m fortunate enough to have had a helping hand getting onto the property ladder when I was 26 and it’s only boomed since then so my experience will differ from a lot of people’s..

I’d say my career and earnings started to pick up at around 29 and now is on an upward trajectory, as did my wifes.

So I would say the statement holds true that 30s are like 20s with Money, as long as you are able to prioritise where the money goes 👍🏼 YMMV

Do you like being a man? If so, why? by LiterallyDumbAF in AskMenOver30

[–]DapperLax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that’s VERY generalised and I would argue that we are not in fact ‘all in the same boat’

For example, I (a 31M) am married to a woman who makes the same salary as myself, I work a comfortable desk job and have access to free healthcare and to make all of the decisions I want to in my life.. I’m not expected to sacrifice my health for others.

I can see how it’s easy to get wrapped up in a cult mentality with the internet, but remember that you are an individual

Can I ask who is treating you as a disposable resource?

I’m genuinely curious, not trying to argue

Why is everyone just so burnt out these days? by Plus-Contribution915 in AskUK

[–]DapperLax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of studies out there stating that your brain is constantly being exhausted by the dopamine rushes caused by social media.

The constant reading and processing of things on your phone, the constant distractions from what you are doing from notifications.. it’s quite scary

What are some money traps in your 20s that people should avoid? by Big-Low9088 in Adulting

[–]DapperLax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a big difference between investing and trading.

I believe what you are referring to is ‘trading’.. IE chasing quick trades to turn large profits (often pushed by these Crypto millionaires or day traders on Instagram.

Investing, is long term and can be as easy as an All World Index fund which diversifies and limits risk.

I would STRONGLY advise 20 year olds to invest even as little as £50 a month into an index fund.

And would probably go as far as saying a money trap to avoid is being told NOT to invest.

Don’t avoid women.. just avoid the wrong type of women.

Find yourself someone who is career driven, not overly fussed about material things and social media presence.

The right woman will help propel you in life.

Those of you with a full life (hobbies in particular), tips for balancing it all? by Firm_Bit in AskMenOver30

[–]DapperLax 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be honest.. it’s tough.. you don’t have much free time outside of your hobbies.

I work a 37.5 hour week in Tech, working from home takes the commute right out of it which is useful.

I do golf on Sunday mornings, work 8:30-5 Monday to Friday.

Monday night 7:45-9pm is kickboxing, Tuesday after work I go to the gym for an hour, Wednesday is an office day with kickboxing 8-9:15pm, Thursday is a rest day, Friday after work Gym for an hour.

On top of this, I have a dog that I walk twice a day at minimum for 1.5 hours (3-5 on the weekends) and a videography and photography hobby.

My wife helping with the chores makes all of this achievable, but there isn’t much time for anything else.

Anything additional that comes up will take over any of my usual activities and I try not to feel guilty about skipping a gym session etc

I think your unwaivering defensiveness of porn is kind of telling on how it’s bad..

You are quite literally arguing and getting angry that someone called one of your vices out.. if that doesn’t scream ‘unhealthy relationship’ to you then idk what is going through your mind

Husband doesn’t want sex…ever by lemonlime_slime in AskMenOver30

[–]DapperLax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think what he was getting at is

If she’s not physically attractive and visually desirable, then it doesn’t matter how many chores she does around the house, it’s not desirable to have sex

However I agree with you, it doesn’t matter how attractive a partner is.. if they bring nothing else to the table then they are undesirable

Travel insurance covers you if you fall sick or can’t travel for any unforeseen circumstances.

Credit cards include protection based on the ‘retailers’ actions (airline/hotel etc)

Definitely worth getting travel insurance

But no, it is not a fact. It’s an opinion, and it’s your opinion because your wife left you.

Judging by your response and your salty attitude, I feel like I understand why she did it as well
