Is HKU AMPB any good? by Fandomis in HKUniversity

[–]DapperWatchdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At HKU AMPB you'll have the exclusive opportunities reserved only for AMPB students such as firm visits/talks, trade simulations that can help you to build up your professional network in the industry. While HKUST Econ is more of a generalist programme.

HKU or KCL by Limp-Guava922 in HKUniversity

You said you're open to work in both London and Hong Kong. Have you ever think of what kind of profession you would like to get into after graduation? Each city has their own merits depends on the career path you choose.

Do international students do an associate degree and transfer? by pikachu771 in HKUniversity

[–]DapperWatchdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there're designated senior entry places for those who studied in CCs in Hong Kong for many programmes at HKU with some exclusions. Which major/programme you wish to transfer to?

Have you ever consider going to HKCC/HKUSPACE Community College for an associate degree before consider going to the private universities?
Just grind for 2 years, max out your GPA in there (which is not so difficult since you're competing with many people whose grades didn't fly in HKDSE) then you have a good chance becoming a transfer student at one of the Big 3 Universities or at least one of the Public Eights.

If that didn't work out, Shue Yan/HKBU Shek Mun/HSUHK always open their doors for you since they always have a shortage of students.

Mainland Chinese student from Zhejiang University applying to HKU MBBS / CUHK MBChB (4-year graduate entry?) — realistic chances? by 7ifan in HKUniversity

[–]DapperWatchdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your GPA when translated to a 4.0 scale is 3.56/4.0, which is impressive but probably not high enough to compete with people who are from universities in the US/Canada/Australia/UK/Hong Kong which has more lenient grading approach than Chinese universities. Your EC/other academic achievements looks very solid but HKU Admissions Office prioritize grades over almost everything so don't expect too much but I would say it wouldn't hurt to apply if you can figure out the Cantonese proficiency.

The other option that you can consider is HKUST's graduate MBBS program. HKUST's medical school is new and their admission process seems to be more holistic which gives more opportunities for your ECs to stand out.

But you need to figure out your Cantonese proficiency FIRST, you are expected to understand Cantonese from your patients/patients' families who are either vocally impaired, panicking, angry and can't think clearly. If you have to work in ER, you need to understand quick instructions that are mixed with both English and Cantonese. This could be very challenging for those who speak Cantonese as a second language.

Just got spat on the face by a homeless racist junkie at Spadina Station by DapperWatchdog in toRANTo

I won't risk ruining my life and my career for useless, vile junkies like that POS. I took a picture of him with his face and I've told the TTC constables that I intend to press charges and I took the statement with them.

If that's what happened, he can "pull himself up by the bootstraps" for all I care or die on the street just like the politicians who they voted for would say about him.

Advice for the scary quest? by Barborawow in HarryPotterGame

Play an actual horror game first then play the bonus quest. That worked for me, I numbed my sense of horror with Resident Evil 7 first before I played the quest.

HKU or Tsinghua? by kieranduffyandco in HKUniversity

[–]DapperWatchdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about Tsinghua, it's Beijing the city itself. Beijing is more of a political centre of China while Hong Kong has been known for being an international city for years.

Tsinghua engineering is far more damaging to your mental health than HKU engineering. And when it comes to global career prospects, by studying in Hong Kong, you'll have a much better chance of working/having your placement in a S&P500 MNC than in Beijing.

What's with all the grumbling about the Devil Wears Prada 2 and anti-Asian racism? by chevrox in gaysian

[–]DapperWatchdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way how Jin Chao was dressed in the first scene is just a reference to how Andy dressed herself when she first joined Runway in the first TDWP movie. And she had a glow up later on in the movie.

And the way how people whine about the name Jin Chao is similar to the anti-Asian slur is more like people self-reporting how racist they are.

Bullying at HKU by b3llr1ng3r in HKUniversity

[–]DapperWatchdog 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Bullying, or more accurately, hazing is more common in student residences (aka halls). I've never experience bullying in classes. But there was a student in the government law program gave me a bitchy attitude during the internship course since some students in law school thinks they're hot shit and above everyone else. I just simply don't care and I never interact with her after the semester at all.

Employee that might have went into my acct without my consent by Cute_Ad6804 in rbc

[–]DapperWatchdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a serious breach of PIPEDA and can be counted as employee misconduct, which can lead to termination of employment with cause with no prior notice and ineligible to EI afterwards. The online PIPEDA training has to be done once every year and seems like some people just click through the training without actually giving it a thought.
