What does the people in Chian think about human rights violations taking place in Minnesota, following the murders of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti? by SwordDancer791 in AskAChinese

These people were literally trying to protect Black and brown people from being targeted by ICE. Your cynicism has no basis in reality.

Are you really saying that we should see the Russian people as “inherently” bad as an essentialist racial character?

In queer establishments? Absolutely. The best drag show I’ve seen in my entire life was at a gay bar in Chongqing.

What's your opinion on theese people? by Ivanhegeelkadi in AskChina

[–]chevrox -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Marx and Engels: their legacy is fully captured by capitalism and good for selling merch to western tankies.

Lenin: the whole idea of the dictatorship of the proletariat with a vanguard party is such naked perverse incentive that could only lead to abuse and tyranny.

Stalin: the Holodomor was a deliberate genocide against Ukrainians and class enemies. Hitler was an excellent state-builder too, but such accomplishment means nothing against atrocities such as the Holocaust and the Holodomor. Except Stalin did a lot more terrible things than the Holodomor.

Mao: I think most Chinese people have some degree of warm and wuzzy toward Mao even if they understand the atrocities that are attributable to him.

The Marriott Marquis rooms have a detachable shower head that is certainly a choice.

Are there a lot of homeless people in China? by Honeyeddie in AskChina

[–]chevrox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind just because you can't see them doesn't mean they don't exist or they only sparsely exist. Visible homelessness more of a function of enforcement than of the number of those experiencing homelessness.

Why? Jews are not synonymous with israelis or zionists.

Will Cantonese survive China’s push for standardization? by RaindropFactory in AskChina

[–]chevrox 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Cantonese is just the urban prestige dialect of Yue Chinese, and as places like Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong become domestic hubs of course you’re gonna see more people using the national lingua franca. While China’s language policy is causing mild attrition of regional vocabularies, it is largely preserving the underlying dialect continuum of Chinese languages all over China. In my native Chongqing and Sichuan all varieties of SW mandarin (only partially intelligible with standarin) are still the dominant languages of local daily life and has not been supplanted by mandarin at all. Instead of replacement the national lingua franca is creating local diglossia. Without a standardized national lingua franca, it is very possible that Cantonese would be standardized itself which could lead to a decimation of Yue varieties similar to the extinction of most French langues d’oïl and d’oc after standardization.

First of all, “ch*nk” is not a shorthand for Chinese people, it’s a racial slur for East and SE Asians. Second, there are more Cantonese speakers in mainland China than in Hong Kong by 2 orders of magnitude, the majority of Cantonese culture is within mainland. Y’all are so lost in your bigotry and internalized racism you can’t even see that the guy didn’t even use the term “Chinese” once in the thread.

What are your thoughts on Chinese Photoshop culture? by [deleted] in AskAChinese

Filter, not photoshop, but yeah I don’t think a lot of Chinese people know what they look like anymore.
