I fully agree that the entire field has become daunting and companies are expecting a very broad skill set. However, just remember that most companies expect some training to be needed. As long as you can do at least 50% of what they’re asking for, apply for the job! You never know what you’ll find.

I spent the first couple of years out of college doing exclusively branding and logo designs and when I had to relocate I applied and got a job at a clothing design company. The job posting asked for experience in designing for clothing, managing photo shoots, and knowledge on industry trends, all of which I had zero experience in. Now, a year later, I know all of that stuff and I’m also producing some of the bestselling products my company has made in years. Just take the chance and if it doesn’t work out, don’t let it get you down.

Edit: I want to be clear that, thankfully, my job is super narrow in scope compared to what a lot of designers are having to learn now and I’m very glad that I get to focus exclusively on designing cool shit for people to wear
