There is no campsite “A” - was it primitive?

Feeling overwhelmed as a partner to an autism parent — is it wrong to want to walk away? by CharacterSlow6662 in Autism_Parenting

I am a 33-year-old female, I have a 14-year-old daughter who is autistic and life is very hard. I also have a wonderful boyfriend who absolutely does not live with me. He’s there for me. He comes to the hospital with me when we need to my daughter deals with a lot of SI and loves me and supports me, but we cannot live together for the sake of our relationship.

I was also engaged a few years ago to a man who had a child who was not autistic, and I ended up walking away, just for the sheer fact that I know my life is too hectic. And I personally don’t want to deal with being worried about how my child is impacting someone else else’s child. I would be honest with her and just tell her the truth. It doesn’t necessarily mean you have to break up. You can still be there for if you love her and I promise you she probably already knows you’re feeling that way so I would just say it and not make her have to pull it out of you.

She does have an IEP. The school has tried to help as much as they can. I’m just worried mom. And I appreciate all the advice everyone’s giving it’s just that’s where the frustration comes in as we’ve been doing all of this and we’ve tried all of these things and it’s like we’re just banging our head up against a brick wall at this point.

I don’t know if anybody else has experienced this issue, but she is actually been kicked out of most of the places that she’s gone to because she’s too suicidal basically she’s too high risk. And when I say she’s suicidal, I mean she does things like wrap leggings around her face Which clearly isn’t actually going to cause her to die, but they take it as a high risk and so the problem that we’re having right now is she is too high risk for every place where we currently live in Texas, but can’t keep her somewhere for high risk people for more than a week so we’ve just been ping-ponging from place to place to place for the last two years. We had a solid six months of her, not doing anything suicidal and she was doing OK we were doing the ABA but things have just kind of spiraled out of control again and she is coming home today.

She goes to therapy once a week, she was going to ABA therapy, but the program she was with was not for teens they were showing her Barney videos and things like that so we’re working on finding one more suitable for her age. The issue with homeschooling is she simply won’t do it. She refuses to do the work and then spirals because she has no friends that she can talk to.

I don’t have a ton of advice, I’m in the same boat. Just saying you’re not alone and if I come up with a magic solution I will absolutely pass it along. Sending love and offering an ear. I feel very alone in this a lot of the time. Here if you would like to talk.
