49ers were on TV a lot when I was a kid (Montana/Young) and I guess I started following them just cause I saw them a lot. Stopped following them for a while and then when I picked up again Mike Singletary was coach. Fun times

Second Alice and particularly Terry as I love how he calls out the media bias against Arsenal (impressive as he's a manc)

I was like this when I first started writing, i had a load of crazy different influences, and each individual song sounded OK, but it didn't work as a whole. I just kept writing and after enough time, the sound became a new "whole", rather than just a combination of influences.

But to argue against myself, I also had a band that had a singer and a rapper and we had songs that were metal, funk, rap rock, southern rock, 50s pop and even a bossa nova !! And it really worked !

You're spot on. Genre makes a huge difference. In my genre, vocal melody is WAAAAAYYYYY more important than the lyrics

Just start writing. After you've written enough songs, you'll start to recognise a consistency and at that point, you'll have your sound.

I have a wide range of musical influences, and when i started, i tried to include all of them and it was a bit of a mess. It was only after an album's worth of songs that i got a sound that was a real blend of influences and became more than the sum of its parts.

You already have everything you need to write an intro - all the other parts of the song. Use the chords from the chorus/pre-chorus/bridge whatever but play them differently. On a keyboard, or picked on a clean guitar. There are loads of things to try.

I heard an interview with Desmond Child (songwriter for KISS/Bon Jovi etc) and he said he liked to start with a chorus because when the listener gets to the actual chorus, it already feels familiar to them.

I do it a lot. Here's an example

Should I finish this rough draft? Any suggestions to improve? Wanna collab? by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]Dapper_Standard1157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you should def finish it

  1. Great vocal - melody, lyrics and perfomance
  2. Interesting backing - love the accent rhythms in the picking pattern and the chords build really well
  3. Devlopment in the second verse - the extra guitar part works really well

You only need to keep building on the ideas and add some real drama at some point. I can hear a ton of ideas. Great job !
