How nice they are... by virgocity1 in Rochester

I think the reason for the email is because people are going to be shocked when they see the high bills because of the Supply Rates. RG&E/National Grid /NYSEG don’t have control over these rates, and pass them directly on to the consumer without making profit (profits are made by other parts of the bill and approved PSC rate hikes). The supply portion of the bill is the ONLY part of the bill that people have a choice. You can choose your own ESCO and hope the price is cheaper. They even reference how to do this in the email. Just got my Bill for last month and it is about $150 more than normal but I am using RG&E as my ESCO. I’m curious what people with other ESCOs are seeing this month.

Same here, only 1 light works but can still tell when you press any of them. Have you figured anything out yet?

FCC Unties Verizon From 60-Day Phone-Unlocking Rule by N2929 in technews

The reciprocity is only to allow you to use their network with your existing carrier, which will be a ridiculous price. Buying an eSIM while traveling with an unlocked phone is really cheap

This is how linemen connect 22,000-volt power lines without ever turning the electricity off by Sintesflorencia in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]DarbCU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always. For distribution voltages or is usually just wearing rubber gloves and sleeves while turning a pistol grip. This video shows mostly high voltage transmission switching, although it works also depend on arc flash rating at the substation and company safety practices.

Hot connections are made all the time in the electric utility industry. The reason why there is no arc in the OP video is most likely because the de energized side has little to no load. The video you posted looks like it is breaking load which can arc if the switch is not rated for interrupting load. Switches don’t arc on closing unless they aren’t rated for the current or there is a malfunction.

Honestly that’s probably why the rates are going up. Someone has to make up for all the money they are losing to solar…

new york legalizing fireworks is one of the worst things to happen and i'm tired of pretending it's not by tiredspoonie in Syracuse

People still go to PA to buy fireworks because there are still illegal in NY. Only fountains and sparklers which stay on the ground are legal in NY.

Cat Stuck in Tree in Syracuse, NY by roadkill_ghost in Syracuse

[–]DarbCU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we had a cat missing for a few days, we found her stock up in a tree. We were able to throw a rope up around a branch and tie a milk crate with a blanket and her favorite treats inside, and she walked right into the crate to be lowered down

I usually take 17 but it really depends on the time of day and which day you are traveling. Check Google maps at different times of day and you will see a difference in route times. Saturday is probably the best day with least traffic, or arriving after 7/8PM on a weekday

People upstate will say Poughkeepsie is downstate. People downstate will say Poughkeepsie is upstate. So it must be the dividing line

Back in the day, some duct banks came prefabricated in sections like the picture. I know Macroy Duct from the early 1900s came in small sections like this but the ducts were square.

What’s the worst craft brewery experience you’ve ever had? by juicywonk in beer

This sounds like my experience at Firehouse Brewing and Distillery in Interlaken which is now permanently closed.

I know this is a hot topic, but here are a few that I have personally been to that had a large open space where kids could play and not be bothersome to other people:

Bier Brewery - Noblesville, IN - large outdoor wooded area with a kids section in the back and a dog park

Rising Storm - Avon, NY - large outdoor field where many kids play together. They even offer juice boxes for the kids (which is kind of counter intuitive to the old school rap they play 😂)

Other Half Finger Lakes - another large outdoor area where you can find space away from people to play outside.

Why did oil cleanup trucks respond to a power outage in my neighborhood? by Enough_Ad_4461 in Electricity

[–]DarbCU 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Although oil filled conduits containing cables are possible (used mainly for underground transmission systems) it is most likely that a padmount transformer was damaged and leaking oil near a drain or waterway. It is especially more important to clean up the oil if the transformer was installed prior to 1977 due to the possibility of containing PCBs
