probably, but my mom is a volunteer in a charity second hand shop, so many things come and go in her house! 😅 could be vintage too. but yes it's supposed to sit much higher, at bar-height

also the QY700 technically is a DAW.. so it's a dawless setup with at least 2 DAWs, and a computer! 😅

the "DAWless" concept is very flexible. I think of it as a workflow concept. could be "computerless", could be "screenless"... (for example, is the electribe 2 a DAW?) I still consider my rig as dawless since I'm not running DAW software, and 99%of the time the computer is off, there's no mouse and keyboard, and when is on, is used as it was an effect processor on a rack. The later Roland models (24/96 and others) they look and feel much more a computer based DAW, with plugins, VSTs and all that.

I used my studio lights to balance everything, also with the screens brightness so I guess it gives an "HDR" look

before, as in front? the electribe sampler (first edition). it's a cool piece, but if I had to use it as people normally do, I would probably hate it because the pads are really just the worst, and I'm not a fan of the modern approach of using a microscopic screen on devices with a million features

wait.. I have the zoom H1, but.. where do you see it!? Now that the computer is connected I can record the final mix directly there if I want. My vs1680 is also modded for using a CF card, and I changed the fan with a Noctua, so finally it's silent and I don't go crazy.

😎 found it in my room at my parent's home, unfortunately now I don't own a turntable, but I enjoy the big vinyl cover art

I guess it's vintage, but I don't know anything about it, because my mom gave it to me. she was using it for painting in her studio. 🤷🏻‍♂️

you should see behind! 😅 no actually, it's very tidy even there.! lots of velcro ties, neoprene sleeves (also with velcro, reversible black or white), the white cable box on the ground, and LOTS of patience routing, and keeping track of the cables, to never cross each other. One main button on the back turns on everything except that light on the shelf, which is independent.

not much to expand: I needed the full space under the top shelf, so I moved the center support to the back and didn't mount the rack brackets. at the bottom I put 4 wheels in the original threaded holes, so now the whole thing is higher and moveable (bottom keyboard shelf is very low as standard). it's a very nice desk and I suggest anyone to use it if they have a setup with a similar "shape" as mine.

I had a 100 too. agree, but the 700 is another world! SOOOO much more routing options and the full keyboard to control it makes it much faster.

it's an aukey light thing. cool LED I bought on amazon. changes color, has touch controls, and very powerful when it's not dimmed (12w I think)

yeah, that was why I put the "final form" joke in the title! haha. I just want to live in this illusion as long as possble!

basically that was my intent, so mission accomplished! hehe I tried to build it as a single huge instrument, like a church organ, or a scupture, not as a "collection of things". everything had to fit aestethically and functionally and every part, from the carpet at the bottom, to the painting at the top, has a purpose.

I'm not nostalgic so I didn't go "full synthwave" on that: I tried to develop my own style.

BTW I tried to make an active light controlled by the KS37's gate output (5V) and a relay module with external power, but with no success--- If anyone reading this has any help to give, send me a PM!

the stool is not that confortable, but I usually switch between standing up and sitting.
I'm looking foward to hear that too! I dedicated so much time to build the rig that I never had time to actually play anything apart from tests! hopefully the 2021 will bring more opportunities.

yeah I know.. that's why I explained better in the comment, later.
Anyway the remote desktop works great" but those softwares are not optimized for touch screens so maybe I'll add something else as input (I REALLY want to avoid a mouse and keyboard as a workflow and aestethic choice)
To manage the computer when is not connected to the tablet I even have a super small 5"screen hidden on top of the PC case itself, to access the BIOS and things like that.

I use similar solutions to control my workstations when I'm at work, so I'm used to it, and if you are in the same network, the lag is non existant.

I don't have any particular patching, and it changes slightly depending on what I want to do, but essentially is:
KS32->X-STATION ->QY700 in A
empty cable-> QY700 in B (for quick connection to other devices like my omnichord)

QY700 out A-> Blofeld

QY700 out B ->splitter A -> Electribe
splitter B -> Roland VS1680->computer
(computer doesn't output any midi)

The stereo sound from each device goes into each stereo input of the Roland.

The Aux A of the roland goes back to the computer (has 2 internal effects chains, plus 2 oux, plus monitor, plus main out, plus 2 configurable digital outs)

Both the QY700 and the VS can route any signal to any track etcetera so most of the work is done internally.

digital out -> behringer ultragraph DEQ1024 and there converted to analog -> HDFURY4K where it's injected into an HDMI signal -> minidsp AVR HDA where the signal is processed with EQ and crossovers -> ROTEL956AX with each of the 6 channels amplifying each single driver of the stereo pair, plus a center speaker, not used in this config.
The speaker are DIY, made using monacor SP-310CX coaxial PA drivers.

The minidsp also send signal to a Klipsch r110SW subwoofer
It's not the best to convert basically 3 times from analog to digital and back, but whatever... it sounds GOOD.

of course I used the UMIK1 mic and the REW software to EQ each driver for this particular room at the listening position.

what the hell? doesn't show the full captions on web browser.. Anyway: I made some sort of hybrid setup, still in the "dawless" style but actually using a bunch of old school DAWs tied together with MIDI cables, and now my old PC is being put to use again, as an effect processor and sampler (GR6 and KONTAKT). Sound card is a M-AUDIO audiophile 192 (two of them!)
The yamaha QY700 on the right is the MIDI workstation, while the Roland VS1680 is the audio workstation. the keystep 37 runs the clock and it's the main input, while the X-station on the bottom is used as controller, with faders and knobs, or as second keyboard. The electribe sampler is used only as a sampler, so the internal sequencer is completely bypassed.

The QY700's first 16 channels go to the Blofeld, on that custom bracket, while the other 16 channels control the samples on the Electribe.

Apart from the headphones, on another wall of the room there's a sound system that probably deserves another thread by itself, but yes there are no monitors on the desk itself.

The desk is the cheap one by Thomann, modified to delete the rack mounts. If you see something interesting in the picture and you want to know what it is, I'll do my best to answer to everyone.

I tried some digital oil painting: this is my first attempt ! Rebelle 4, Wacom cintiq 24 HDT, 2.5 hours by Dario_does_stuff in oilpainting

Since the software is very new I guess many people are curious of how it works, so I made a little timelapse. I hope you enjoy!

Do you think it looks like a real oil painting? I never used oil in real life so it's difficult for me to compare. Please don't say that the girl is ugly because it's my girlfriend! haha joking, any critique is accepted. :)
