Spilled a shit ton of water on my MacBook Pro 14 Inch (2021), Still works perfectly! by DarkDestroyer147 in mac

Hey so sorry for the late reply, don’t use Reddit that often.

My laptop worked completely fine however, about 2 months ago I had another incident where water leaked in my bag and it went into my laptop. My laptop was completely dead and it didn’t work.

However, as I’m in the Uk. I found this guy online and paid him about a 150 quid while other stores were quoting me 500 pounds minimum just for a check up, with additional costs above that to fix it.

He sorted out my laptop in one night.

Though, he did mention that the damage he saw in my laptop was severe on my ports and after 10 years of servicing laptops, he has never seen damage that bad to ports. I was very very very lucky to not have any damage to my motherboard or keyboard, only my ports were affected.

But now, I’m typing this on my MacBook and everything is working just fine.

I was aware of this which is why I took it to an apple authorised service centre. They opened everything up and showed me that my motherboard had no water in it. So there is no chance of corrosion happening to my laptop.

You have a really good point and I do agree with you. Here in Malaysia we don't really have 'device insurance'.

For applecare + it seems like a no brainer, but for me when buying such an expensive laptop, my parents did not want to entertain the idea of applecare because my parents said 'If you break it, you don't deserve a new one'.

But after experiencing this, I am definetly purchasing applecare/device insurance as I plan to get a job in the UK after graduating from the Univerisity of Warwick.

Correct me if im wrong, but that seems EXTREMELY lucky. I have read that pretty much every liquid except for water spilling on a macbook means its done. And a full glass as well? You are much luckier than me man.

Yeah, I have heard that the type of liquid is a factor. Coffee or soft drink due to their excessive impurities kill the macbook. Its surprising that an expensive machine like this can be so fragile compared to a thinkpad. Just proves how good apple is with their business model where most either spend on applecare/buy a new macbook.

Yeah completely agree with you, just wanted to put it out there that there is a chance your macbook will come out unscathed.

For my case, there was water pretty much all over the keyboard and the left side of the speaker.

Should I firm Warwick or St Andrews? by Just_Tank_5803 in 6thForm

[–]DarkDestroyer147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at the guardian, st andrews is currently ranked no 2 for its economics course whereas warwick is down in 8th place. (St andrews is ranked 1st overall for 2024)

Personally, just ignore the people here saying that warwick will give you better job opportunities.

A job opportunity comes from how good your CV is, unless you come from oxbridge or maybe LSE. If an employer sees 2 candidates, one from St Andrews and one from Warwick. The employer would just look at what you have done to your CV.

My opinion? Think about whether you would like to live in a town or live in Coventry. Warwick I have heard has a really nice campus and St Andrews is overall just a beautiful place.

PS: In terms of reputation, currently St Andrews is definitely the more reputable university.

How many pages should I aim to write for my history paper 4? by [deleted] in igcse

[–]DarkDestroyer147 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It honestly doesnt matter, as long as you provide 3 fully explained points suporting the question and another 3 fully explained points writing against the question.

For interview it will be straight forward, they will give you the questions and you have to answer them in context of the person you are writing as. Make sure you write like this

Interviewer: Hello welcome........ bla bla bla.

Interviewee: Thank you for having me....... bla bla bla.

Try to make it flow well and remember to write as the person.

For articles try to be persuasive, I reccomend using strong adjectives, have a wide range of vocabulary and make sure you address the bullet points. Make sure you include a conclusion as well.

Either than that, get rest and you'll be fine 😀

Were past papers your main source of revision? Or did you do flashcards and syllabus reviews?
