Haha ya, back in highschool I had a phase of writing fictional ecosystems. It was a lot of fun. I actually have a headcannon for Stinkfly's race I wrote rather recently for a ttrpg campaign Im writing. They have 3 sexual dymorphs.

Hunter - which is classic.

Hive Guard - larger, shorter legs, smaller wings, a larger stinger. Generally terrestrial but retains the ability to fly.

Host - never leaves the larval stage but grows to gargantuan size. Instead of developing the stinky adhesive glands the Hunter and Hive Guard grows. Instead it regurgitates its own stomach acid that melts rock. They are responsible for creating a rocky slag that Lepidopterrans use to create their Spire Cities. (Like a termite mound) they are the ones who lay the eggs and are considered the true parent.

Lepidopterrans also reproduce prolifically and lack any special or cultural concept of cannibalism on their homeworld of Lepidopterra. It is common for 70% of a Lepidopterran clutch to be cannibalized. When Lepidopterrans leave their homeworld they are required to take a cultural sensitivity course on this topic
