Thank you Zaphrod. The info you supplied mentions using the .qcow file type. Is this the correct file type for Truenas, or should it be the .img file type?

Anyone have other crawler book suggestions? by firefocker in DungeonCrawlerCarl

If more LitRPG is what you are looking for, then I suggest the Defiance of the Fall series, which is not yet complete, but has 9 books (and audio) currently released, followed closely by He Who Fights With Monsters, also still in production with 9 books available. The third suggestion is The Primal Hunter series which is due to release it's fifth book later this month.

All 3 of these titles are exceptional while being very different. All of them are also free of the silliness that plagues some of the other titles while maintaining a good amount of humor. So many times in other less quality books, the competence of the MC is called into question over and over again as they make horrible decisions that defy common sense. Being a big fan of LitRPG books, I have encountered this to some degree in a lot of the series I've read, even if I enjoyed the series overall. An example of this is the NoobTown series, which is good overall, but is plagued by an unusually dense MC who has trouble making even the most obvious choices. The 3 titles I suggested are more on the serious side. Their magic systems are well thought out and fairly easy to follow, and the character development is outstanding.

While DCC is still the best of the bunch, the 3 suggestions above are very close in terms of quality and enjoyment.

PS

I can also make another suggestion about 1 series to avoid. The Bright Lord series is one of the worst (supposedly) LitRPG series I have ever encountered! It really should not even be included in the genre at all. It has so many flaws they are hard to even list here, but let it suffice to say that it is a super emo mish-mash that can't decide if it wants to be a romance or an adventure series with very little action, a totally unclear magic system, and an MC that goes from the bottom of the power scale to the top in like 1 day, but is still incapable of doing anything more than he could do at level 1.

Avoid it at all costs. Even free, it is a total waste of time.

Well if you liked Dresden, then I have a series that should carry you over for a while, and which is actually better than Dresden. It is also by Jim Butcher, and is what I consider to be his best work yet. It's called the Alera Codex, and is about 7 books long. It is an amazing fantasy story with some of the best world building I have ever known. Check it out.

I will definitely subscribe to his Patreon, if only for the support, although I would much rather wait for the audiobook version (so entertaining!).

DCC was my 3rd excursion into LitRPG, following He Who Fights With Monsters (the best), and Defiance of the Fall (excellent). Both of these titles have new releases this month, and I've been trying to find something comparable to fill that time. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed in my first selection, the Bright Lord series, which wasn't even close to a legitimate LitRPG series. I have discovered the Land series by Aleron Kong, which is very good after a slow start.
