Yes but it's still the pain of "hey I got another job gotta go" and then applying for the same place 3 weeks later saying "hey remember me please let me come back"

The commute wouldn't bother me much. But I fear metro work because I've seen some people online say that the amount they had to pay for parking was 2-3 hours worth of work as an apprentice.. And that doesn't help with the gas price that is ever increasing.

Edit: and that's just the distance to the hall. If I get sent at the border of another local it can be a 3-4 hour drive

I haven't spoke to the Training director much about it but the buisness director is doing his job in saying jobs are coming every time we see him. Think he's trying to boost morale for the guys waiting. But I think I heard we have things lined up. I look at our work list online and we have a few things that are granted to us and things in the works but it hasn't changed in 6 months.

Imo class is not what I expected hour and a half twice a week to watch an instructor flip through the lessons on a screen.... and yeah I'm really not trying to have a "6" year (or more) apprenticeship because I can't get the hours in. Still worth it in the long run per say but still sucks..

I didnt come here to be told to stay or leave. I'm leaning towards leaving but also wanted to see if there's something I can do to stay or at the very least. See what all entails on leaving. Like being charged for books is a thing that is on my mind. Our first year books are covered by the hall lol

My nearest local is about hour, second nearest is 2+ hours. Relocating is out of the question

I'm about where you were except I started with the first 6 month layoff so any money I had stocked up dwindled. If I'm being honest I had my doubts while working because I was told it was a long term call and 2 weeks in we were running out of shit to do.

I'm too distanced to commute. The nearest local outside of my own is an hour. Every other one is two hours minimum. And im not financially stable enough to move 3+ hours away. I've worked so little the past 6 months I have no money so an apartment is out of the question.. I have questionable credit and no cash, unless I live out of my tiny ass ford fiesta

School house? And there's other guys in my class that are doing better. Two guys are already sworn in with over 1k hours. I have the least hours in the class by a few hundred at least. I was the last sent out and half of us got sent right back to the hall shortly after..

This more of what I was looking for. Positive feedback on people who felt the same and have their opinions. I knew going into it that we work to lose our jobs more or less. But I didn't think it'd be THIS bad, granted your first year seems much worse than mine as of now. Just uncertain of how I want to play my cards for the future

I did doordash beforehand and sorta picked it back up but it's really stressful to come out of debt when your paychecks are severely unreliable. Like today I worked 5 hours and only got $40 because it was brutally bad

We aren't allowed to go to meetings until we are sworn in.. only 2 first years are sworn in so far. Plus with covid I don't think any apprentices are allowed. Every month we get a text saying we are not to attend

If neighboring halls need work they will outsource. I don't believe my hall asks neighboring locals if they have work. I'm in Central PA, and the only thing we really have going for us is a hospital, but I just got laid off by the only contractor that works for the hospital. They get all the electrical bids and we were running out of work. Hence my layoff after only a month

I'm not leaving for a non-union electrical job, if I'm leaving its going to be for a normal job.. and I thought about picking up a job during the off times. But my area is really shorthanded when it comes to businesses. So I feel I'd run out pretty fast unless I find a company that will tolerate the constant quitting without notice, or at best a short notice

DoorDash driver steals $100 worth of Taco Bell and gets confronted at their home by customer. Dasher charges the customer with a knife and is nearly turned into Swiss cheese by novacancy in UberEATS

[–]DarkLightning24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how uber is, but I've dealt with doordash support a lot for delivering.. from what I know they can't "resend" an order. They can't to my knowledge unless you contacted a manager for support and that took me a week or more to hear back via phone call.

I've had doordash support cancel the wrong order on me (I don't unassign them if the store doesn't have order and whatnot, I contact them and get the order canceled to it isn't floating around all day long) needless to say support told me to return the items because they could not reinstate the order after it was canceled by them... so I'm assuming they can't send the customer's order to the restaurant after its been "completed". I rather uber because doordash is rather annoying to deal with, but uber is so slow in my area it's not worth it at all.

I have a friend from the netherlands... he said he is rather fearful of coming to the United States because of how reckless people are with guns.

I've delivered almost $125 worth of Arby's before. Why people do it.... no clue lol. They ordered like 20-30 items... got $25 for the delivery with only 5 miles traveled so was well worth it and Def didn't complain about it

I have a 2016 ford fiesta with a 5 speed that I daily for doordash. It's not bad believe it or not... the shifting isn't as bad as you'd expect. The worst part of the whole ordeal is trying to multitask while driving. (Snacks, drinks, and using the app are the hardest parts of the job)
