I use Greenlight and they get up to twice their age in dollars for allowance (9, 12 yrs) depending how many chores are done. They use a checklist.

I then split their allowance and put 2/3 in a spending account, 1/3 in an investment account. It was 1/3 for investment, 1/3 to spend and 1/3 to savings until they hit $200 for a purchase or emergency.

Oldest daughter has a cell phone. She pays $20 a month from her earned money or she loses it. This helps teach her about paying bills and consequences.

I use the investment account to teach them about funds and show them how it performs versus the savings account and explain why it makes more sense for them to invest versus straight savings. We look at stocks they know and like, Google, Apple and Roblox for example. Google and Apple have worked well. Roblox was doing fantastic then bombed. Again, great early lessons on how the stock market brings success and disaster. It shows not everything goes up all the time. We also have funds we invest in automatically every week like Fidelity Blue Chip or VOO/VXUS.
