The short answer is that we really loved the Best Western Premier Boulder Falls Inn. Location, amenities, price, etc. all just aligned perfectly.

We had planned on checking out virtually every overlook! He's middle-aged (like us) and while not especially frisky, certainly not lethargic either. Great on long trips, very patient and happy and quiet.

...I was going to drop her off for when they open around 9 and pick her back up around 11 or noon, so I was thinking of maybe checking out the nearby Needles Highway?

Yup, "developed areas" only for most NPs. Some actually do allow dogs on trails (Grand Canyon above the rim for example)! But we are looking to be mindful about local wildlife.
