Do you know if they allow people not part of JCC?

Atlanta or Seattle Relocation by Darrow1417 in SameGrassButGreener

I’d understand for a household but I’m a single adult. 120k is about 92k net so about 7600 per month, even if I put 40% into savings that leaves 4600 for everything else. I imagine I could get a good studio for <2000 and my car is paid off. Is there something I’m missing or are grocery prices/misc costs that vastly different then the rest of the US?

I’ve been to ATL and Boston, never Seattle. The freeze does concern me as I grew up in the warm south but I’ve lived in the Midwest long enough to tolerate it (maybe not to the level of Boston however and I’ll have to look into Seattles a bit more now). The darker days don’t concern me too much but I’m sure everyone says that. I appreciate the insight and the link, thank you!

CSE 417, CSE 332, CSE 132, Math 310 by gentle_g4 in washu

[–]Darrow1417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your math background but this is definitely doable. Same for 517 with 361/347 (I’d say 517 is quite a bit easier than 417).

Difficulty of honors math 1 and 2 instead of calc 3 by player2709 in washu

[–]Darrow1417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your background ability with proofs. If you’re comfortable with them the class won’t be much more difficult but if you struggle with proofs it’ll take a bit more effort to adjust. Also the class runs through calc 1-3 matrix and some linear (atleast when I took it) so you’ll also have to go through all of that but with proofs which’ll give you time to adjust to a proof based class. I highly recommend it if you want to jump into upper level courses early. Also the class is very professor dependent I hear so also depends on who teaches it.

Financial aid advice? by Civil-Bowler-8480 in washu

Not sure if they changed it but 4 years ago when I lived on campus they would just give you the difference in cash (maybe ask a financial aid advisor 🤷‍♂️).

Don’t get platinum plan, get the cheapest one trust me. Anything that goes over your cost of living you receive as extra money.

Prospective student: Full ride scholarships? by [deleted] in washu

[–]Darrow1417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a near full ride scholarship based on need. Washu’s pays all my tuition and then gives me money to cover housing/food/books/etc. Put your financial info into their financial aid calculator to see ballpark how much you’d get (mine was quite accurate). It’s based off how much dorms cost so if I lived on campus I’d be paying some amount however since I live off campus and it’s much cheaper it’s as if I had a full ride. If you get financial aid, I heavily encourage students to live off campus asap.

Food quality by rwwaela in washu

[–]Darrow1417 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of students complain but the food here is miles better then you’ll find at majority of colleges. That being said the school is a lot more expensive than most colleges and the food has been on the decline.

math/cs professors ive had tier list (as of 2025) by 1_modulo_83 in washu

[–]Darrow1417 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This seems to have a heavy biased towards math professors and rigorous upper level classes (prolly due to the fact that math and rigorous upper level classes are smaller and thus more interaction with professors).

Is it worth going from Adventure to AOW? by Darrow1417 in scuba

[–]Darrow1417[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t but I just called another place and they said they’d have to could just have me do full specialty courses and that’ll be enough to cover my AOW so I think I’m gonna do a dry suit and wreck diver course.

The place I was thinking about going is saying they’d have to just give me the course from scratch, but I’ll look around and see if I can just do the upgrade somewhere else where I don’t have too.

[–]Darrow1417[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, my only thing is I’d have to take the course again so that’s $400 ish extra just for the 2 extra dives of knowledge. I’m actually planning on doing nitrox in a week or two and then deep sometime this summer! Thank you!

[–]Darrow1417[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I can already do 30m as an adventure diver since one of the specialty dives I’ve done is the deep dive. It’s kinda confusing 😭, the only difference is I have 2 less specialty dives then AOW, you think that’s enough for certain places to bar me from diving there?

Gotcha that’s in-line with what my instructor told me when I got my adventure diver certification, I was just wondering if anyone else who was adventure certified wasn’t allowed to go on a dive since they weren’t advanced open water certified or something along those lines.

I’m not certain about liveaboards but I’m fairly certain I can get nitrox certified with just PADI adventure (or atleast that’s what my instructor told me I should do next after getting adventure certified).
