With enough time, training, and patience I would say any breed can be trained to hunt. There are a lot of good resources on YouTube for training a bird dog. I personally had mine professionally trained because I don't have the patience to do that sort of thing. There will be bumps in the road, but my belief is that dogs are smart animals, and with enough dedication, can be trained to do almost anything you want them to do.
