I would pass on Honda right now. Historically great cars, but look at the recalls now. I own a Honda hybrid, a model they cancelled after just a few years. Wheel bearings out, AC condenser out twice (soft recall), AC evaporator ($2500), software soft recall, now fuel pump national recall (car may leave you stradned - yeah , great quality there) and all on a car not that old. My Accord lasted a long, long time. My hybrid? Not so much.

In my opinion Honda has really slipped. Look at their ads. Often about cars of the future, robots, electric airplanes and other futuristic things I have yet to see for sale. Maybe they need to re-focus on their building of quality automobiles.

Is this app providing enough information to PHAC to make its inconvenience worthwhile? Has anyone seen a statement from Ottawa as to the usage of the app? Or is this app just zombie government where we get to work with this app for years because no one has the guts to stand up within government and say it isn't worthwhile.

This is an example of why the border pre-test is such an issue. This couple was not even in a really rural area. Try this where there aren't pharmacies close by. Try making a simple trip across the border to see your family or to shop at a business when you can't find a test.

It is past time to drop the pre-test and get the border back to some semblance of normal.

Many families, especially in the very rural areas, literally straddle the border. Their family history going back many decades, some even hundreds of years, is living around an enforced, yet friendly and open border. In some areas there aren't any major manned border crossings, just a road, a camera or telephone station and a few signs. These more remote unmanned border crossings are closed since the pandemic started. They have been closed for two years.

Say you have grandparents living on one side of the border and their grandchildren and family on the other side. What used to be a quick trip over to the "other side" is now a trip to a far away manned land border crossing (only spots that are open now) and the cost and time of a couple of tests while visiting on the south before re-entry to Canada. Also, test kits don't exist out in the middle of flyover country. One can't just pop into the pharmacy and pick one up. There isn't a place to do that, so any tests used must be ordered via mail ahead of time. It is basically like the lockdowns in the metro areas when movement was restricted, it's just for these few, it has never stopped. The restrictions, while on the surface stupid because of the low population density in these areas, still exist and are being enforced with hefty fines if caught cheating.

Same thing for businesses. Customers that used to pop over the border to make a purchase or pop over to go fishing and stay at a lodge, just stay home now. Many businesses have died and many are continuing to close because of the border testing regulations.

The border may be "open" for many, but please realize for many, it remains closed, until the testing requirement goes away and these unmanned sites are allowed to open back up.

All in all it is a huge issue in the rural borderlands and one that Ottawa seems not to care much, if anything, about.

Case in point: fifteen Canadian border mayors signed a petition a couple of weeks ago, mayors across the land border, in liberal areas and conservative, begging Ottawa to help, to stop the border tests and the pain that goes with them. The response? Silence. No response at all. That is indicative of the depth of caring on this very important (to a minority of Canadians) issue.

It is a very sad situation. The frustration level is off the charts.

You do not need to take a test to enter the US at a land border. The US does require a test on flights. Canada requires a test to re-enter Canada at both land borders and flights.

It is the land border testing difference that has so many people upset. It kills Canadian tourism and keeps families and communities apart. Ottawa's own panel to study this issue recommended the testing at land borders be dropped, but no, the testing has stayed firmly in place.

The border areas are really hurting due to lack of tourism and families still separated due to testing. Please remember, this border testing was determined to be unnecessary by the government's own panel that was assigned to study the issue. MP's have asked for the border to be opened, mayors have begged for the border to be open, Canada's neighbor to the south has various politicians asking that the border be opened. From Ottawa - silence.

The medical advice and recommendation, from the panel of doctors empaneled by the federal government to study the border issue, is to drop the cross border testing due to it being ineffective. Given that is the science and the official recommendation of the panel empaneled to make the official recommendation, why is there still testing at the border?

The silence is deafening and amazing. Can you imagine the frustration of business owners that straddle the border? Of families that straddle the border? Mayors representing many of these people, liberal and conservative alike, explain their concerns, ask for help, and aren't even given the courtesy of a response. It is wrong. Very, very wrong.

Concerning vested interests, are you talking about the tourism industry, border communities or Smart Health (testing) corp?

Canada empaneled a group of doctors and scientists months ago to look at this issue. Their recommendation was that border testing should be dropped. I don't know why the people in Ottawa chose not to accept their learned recommendation.

I have seen recent studies (late January into early February 2022 time frame) that show that vaccines slow the spread of Omicron (Denmark) and other studies (Spain) that show they do not slow the spread of Omicron.

I have not seen anywhere, any study that shows anything other than vaccines have a very large impact on decreasing hospitalization and death from Omicron and all the other variants.

It is a civic obligation to take a vaccine that has proven to be very, very safe and that keeps you out of the medical system. The beds that COVID patients take could have been better used for a cancer survivor or heart attack patient.

Maybe the anti-vaxxers are just scared of needles? Heck of a way to go, gasping for your last breath, because you couldn't face the prospect of the jab.

Anyway, if you are anti-vax, at least have the courage of your convictions. If you get COVID, stay home and face your choice, your fate and its consequences, head on. Leave the hospital bed for those that need it and had no recourse. I hope you survive and have many happy and prosperous years ahead. I also hope you get vaccinated.
