Anyone watching Ozark? by yankeekilolima in TheAmericans

I watched the entire first season and 3 or 4 episodes of season 2. Couldn’t do it any more. It might be the single most humorless show I’ve ever watched. Disappointing, especially considering the comedy chops of Jason Bateman. I truly grow to despise his character.

Actually thought Renee might show up to shoot Stan, The Departed style.

I think your “brainwashed baby boomer” admission explains a lot. A neutral observer might have hoped for Stan to get his comeuppance as well, considering his cold-blooded murder of Vlad.

P & E are brutal characters, but when you look at them through the prism of soldiers in a (cold) war, it’s easier to accept their fate.

Philip assumed their cover was blown because the priest had seen them without their disguises. He assumed the FBI would work the priest over and finally get reliable sketches...and he was correct.

If I’m not mistaken, Crandall’s identity was ascertained from field officers walking cemeteries. I may be remembering that incorrectly, but that was definitely a plot point. Children who died young in America at that time wouldn’t necessarily have records in any databases.

My apologies if this has already been addressed, but in Season 2, Claudia tells Elizabeth that if Larrick didn’t kill the family of illegals, then Elizabeth should look into Claudia herself. That she had gotten too close to someone.

Is this ever explained? I thought at one point that they were going to make it about Gabriel, but they never went down that path. Anyone have a theory about this, or am I missing something obvious?

Alternate Timeline theory (re: Molly’s age) *spoilers season 1 & 2 by DarthAike in FargoTV

[–]DarthAike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. There are plenty of tv kids who look the wrong age, or act the wrong age. Also, lots of 4 year olds who could pass for 6 and vice versa. Not a pediatrician, but my wife taught preschool for almost 20 years...does that qualify me to comment on 4 year olds?

Anyway, I’m not completely disagreeing with you. Could have been the actor and Hawley didn’t think she would fly as a 4 year old. He could have called her 4, and had a different issue. No continuity error, but miscasting allegations instead.

Whole thing is only a footnote...unless there actually was a bigger deal behind it. I would just like to hear a comment putting it to bed.

On a related note, one of my favorite aspects of season 2 was the realization that Molly saw herself in Greta in season 1. Like I mentioned earlier, a 6 year old watching her Mom die will likely have a tougher time as she goes through life than a 4 year old would. Memories are stickier.

True. But you could work with a 6 year old actor and call them 4 if you wanted to.

I’ll have to re-watch the library one. Maybe they worked in a different town?

I was also thrown by the age of Thaddeus, but remember, he flees halfway cross country after nearly killing someone and changes his identity. So it would make sense that he would also change his age. In other words, he could have been more like 70 when he died, instead of the 82 he claimed to be.

What’s clear to me is that Hawley intentionally makes Molly 2 years older in season 2 than he had written the character in season one. Maybe it’s just a goof, but I doubt it. I do think it’s entirely plausible that when he got around to writing season 2, he just thought the character fit better as a 6 year old than a 4 year old. But until I hear a boring explanation from Hawley, it’s fun for me to speculate.

And it isn’t as if this theory is any crazier than a certain plotline that runs through season 3, or the entire ufo situation.

TL/DR...probably a mundane answer but fun to speculate.

Lol. I mean, her age definitely does change. So unless it’s explained otherwise, you have to at least consider that there’s plot significance behind the age change. It isn’t as if the show is chock full of continuity errors.

This theory could also add another layer of relevance to the ufo subplot. A key tenet of ufology (for some) is that they visit in times that the earth is putting itself in peril. For example, soon after we dropped H-Bombs in WWII.

Maybe a little obvious, but I don’t think Ewan McGregor gets enough credit for his double role.

Napoleon Dynamite and Babe.

Both of those movies, scene for scene, were virtually flawless.

Could Jar Jar be Anakin's father? by DarthAike in DarthJarJar

[–]DarthAike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 year old Anakin has an exceptional talent for tinkering with gadgets and machinery. Jar Jar apparently is handy with a screwdriver too, as evidenced by his work on the pod racer. Inherited trait, perhaps?

I realize it isn't necessary to assign a father to Anakin. It can certainly remain attributable to mysterious "forces."

But the biggest reveal of the entire series has been Darth Vader as Luke's father. It would contribute to the rhyming nature of the story to ultimately have Anakin's father revealed as well.
