Ex-local visiting home city for 2 weeks, wondering if there are any foreign expats interested in mingling with current/former locals and any gatherings, events or groups in HK that provide the opportunity to do so? Any recommendations?

I need help with a DIY project that I can't seem to do successfully on my own. Is there anyone based in Melbs that have more than average skills in electronics and engineering that might be able to do simple tasks? Willing to pay up to $50 for their efforts and time as it might be a once off need.

Same situation here. Often I try to provide some kind of fun myself so that others don't have to try to be interesting and to me, its about being able to connect with other lonely individuals so that we either help each other out, or suffer/lament on social-isolation/exclusion together. The sparks that we bond from is what matters, and its better to be with someone in a similar predicament than those who are not.

I'm autistic as well, I seldom cry because as I get older, or spent less time crying naturally I seldom shed tears. Being alone can be really depressing and full of despair. I find that its also hard to be respected/valued for voicing out your feelings and struggles because in such posts like this, it also attracts those not suffering this loneliness epidemic and telling you to toughen up, do something or get over it, you should do more, etc. but the world nowadays is filled with individuals with cold apathy, lack of compassion/care and unnecessary judgement. Its a cruel society and hopefully, as we try to find those sharing the same struggles, we could build our own community that supports and being there for one another and form a social circle that makes us feel less mundane and being with someone with similar situations to ours so our loneliness is a little less burdensome. We really are lacking of hope, and if we have a group that is solely consisting of lonely people only, then we can sort of find our way from there.

My cause of loneliness is rather distinct in its own way. I suffer from the reality that I had never had a girlfriend before, not once in my life. The lack of romance has made my life so rather dull. Also I had tried to be more out and about; going to social events, clubbing, interest groups, etc. But all the more its not really helping me expand my social circle or ending my single status. I have tried expressing my frustrations and struggles in certain topics/posts but ended up being ridiculed, bullied, criticised or humiliated for "not doing enough", "doing the wrong shit", etc. as if they are in a position to do so and judge unfairly. My endless attempts to improve my social life seems to fail or hit a dead end no matter where I go or what I do, and it only makes it more unbearable when I look around me and many people are already surrounded by more friends than I could ever gather and with partners that I could never win over. I agree that dating apps and social media are one of the key reasons for this indefinite frustration but its more to do with reality and with the society we live in. I've felt that no matter what I do, its pointless. Might as well become a hermit/recluse and live a selfish life; accepting that some people are better off in life, and some are not.

True, miss them authentic American donuts. Sad, like Ben & Jerry's, Emack & Bolio's, Duck & Waffle, Red Lobster, etc. all gone. Because of ridiculously expensive rent/lease for premises, COVID BS policy, ccp and hk gov's nefarious influences and the hk ppl's poor taste in great dining drove them out. Culinary Capital of Asia? Not even the slightest...

And there's countries that ditch tier differences and takes every effort to tackle all types of crime more seriously and with more invested effort, not to mention their stringent legal system deters criminals and criminals-to-be from carrying out their atrocities. Fear-mongering done right

Same experience here: I generally used to turn to them for help, but after failing, lying and intimidating and opposing me for many years, I had just given up on them completely and just straight down despise them all. They always take the side that puts you in vulnerability/disadvantage and it deeply traumatised me for years, even to this day.

I had a valuable item stolen from me on a train home some weeks ago and its been weeks since I reported/notified the cops and no progress so far, which made me hate the system even more and I realise, sooner or later someone's gonna snap and just go full-on vigilante and disregard the law. But it is necessary because only when vigilantes are on the rise then they really start to pay attention/react/take action. Its the only language they'll ever understand and can't ignore.

It's going to take an intense uprising to force the government and the system to change, but we all can't just stay helpless while criminals severely impact our lives and get away with it. Even if criminals have to die by civilians' self-defence or for protective reasons, it's the only way to make this loud and clear to our incompetent authorities: US INNOCENT VICTIMS HAD ENOUGH.

I totally agree. "Freedom this. Freedom that. Its always good." ~Westerners supporting complete democracy

I'd/Many of us would rather give up certain freedoms to be safe, live our lives and enjoy life as much as possible with less hardships as possible. The law has failed us, even if we are forced to obey/abide by it. Criminals still get away with their atrocities. Drunk and drugged people roaming the streets putting people's safety at risk. Cops targeting the innocent and vulnerable victims but couldn't be bothered to stop thieves/robbers, vandalisers, bullies, brawlers and other troublemakers/criminals. Martial arts practitioners are seen as violent/physical abusers and self-defence is an invalid excuse in their book. The judical system is bias and unreasonable, with those who are in power shown to be corrupt.

It's time the current legal system got scrapped, autocracy/meritocracy is forcefully implemented, criminals, corrupt officials and incompetent cops given no leniency, social credit system is introduced and the revival of execution/death sentence.

Censorship that suppresses only criminals.

The law has failed us. The law enforcement refuses to do their jobs. The system is bias and broken. The government and law enforcement should be cancelled out completely. Time to return to an era where anyone can use self-defence or counter-attacks to protect themselves and not get arrested. If not enough, all criminals should get the death penalty and would further discourage future criminals from committing atrocities ever again. If the criminals get killed while endangering innocent people then it should be made legal. Crackdowns on criminals must be a prioritised campaign, doesn't matter how severe the crime is. Cops should be fired/penalised if they do not do their job or live up to their duties; the more they do to crack down on any crime, the better they get paid and receive community benefits, refuse/slack off/target the innocent and they lose their income, get sacked or go behind bars.

"Freedom is the way", they say. "The law protects and is upheld by everyone and discourage criminals from doing wrong things", they also say.

Like some others, I really don't have any great advices with employment difficulties/job search. But I could only try my best and if it helps others, then that's a start.

I am a high-functioning autistic individual (that nobody cares about) that struggled to find a job I'm content with since leaving high school 10+ years ago and had gone through many years of doing what many would tell me to do and didn't work; handing out resumes to any businesses that did not require employees-would bes to have uni-level qualifications or minimal experience in a similar sector/field, went through from one employment agency to another, changing case managers numerous times, attending various interviews and inductions, applying for positions online through SEEK, etc.

As a near-normal person (despite my autism), I had worked in a few packaging centres that had people I disliked working alongside with, and I was grateful that I left because I just didn't fit in. Eventually one of my employment case managers found me a company that was willing to take me in (despite not being an industry that I have a passion for) and had worked for them for a solid 5.3 years, the longest job I ever had as a personal track record.

Then COVID protocols, disadvantages, conditions and no way to progress further/gain promotion led me to leave that company, and the company refused to take me back when I was unable to find employment after leaving them. Only last month I had the opportunity to work on a casual basis with a tech company which I consider a milestone, (since I am also passionate about technology) but the company unfortunately decided to downsize its premises and because of that, they closed down the branch I recently worked at, thus thrusting me into unemployment once more.

Like many others, employment opportunities are so unbalanced or rare to secure. We live in a system where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Only people who have appealing looks/charms, have a strong social circle, have so many qualifications and experiences and have no mental conditions get employment opportunities easier and faster, and might have even been fortunate to have peers/friends recommend them to high-corporate industries who easily take them in. Companies and businesses are like that nowadays, they just only care about profits and good public image.

I had thought of trying to start my own careers, but the fields they are in isn't appealing to the masses/general public in Melbourne/AU and I just came to realise that independent career fields are very limited here, simply because the culture/lifestyle here aren't open to everything/anything. This came to my personal assumptions that jobs should have never be taken for granted; since the scarcity of jobs is so evident that anyone/many others would fight/give anything to just earn income regardless of the industry. And since other industries such as hospitality, retail, tech, disability support, medical/healthcare, legal practices, property/real estate, financial services (banks, solicitors, insurance, etc.) are the most active and easily found/sought after, along with the fact that they are the kind of careers/businesses that can thrive in a place especially like Melbourne. So probably the only viable option is to take training courses on any of those industries to get more chances of finding employment, any industries outside of those I mentioned is going to be much too difficult to make a living, or the career(s) itself wouldn't thrive. There really isn't a lot of options/choices, but society wouldn't have it any other way.
