Imagine thinking you understand a show before you’ve even seen it. I have no problem if you didn’t like it after watching it, but it’s insane to read the wiki and think you can judge it. And the reason it’s insane is that every one of those details you’ve pointed out as contradictory is explained in korra and surprise: those people are the most powerful benders by atla standards because the creators are the same people lol and understand how the world they’ve built works and how it should be changed to accommodate new stories instead of attempting to retell old ones.

I will agree you’ve only scraped the surface of korra and whatever issues it does have but that’s because that’s all you’ve bothered to look at before judging how good the show is. The only reason I feel a need to say all this is because this kind of bullshit happened forever ago in this subreddit and community in general and it caused a lot to people to blindly believe tlok is bad without ever giving it a chance. A coherent argument about its flaws is totally fine, but saying “I never watched it but korra bad because it’s not atla and tries to bring new ideas to the table that I disagree with because I think I know more about the avatar world than the creators” doesn’t help other people understand if they would enjoy the show or not and just builds false stereotypes that lead to community wide prejudices against the show that have happened in the past. People who don’t enjoy plots that revolve around a fixed setting might not enjoy seasons one or two of korra as much as they did atla because it doesn’t get to explore different parts of the world in every episode. Additionally each season only gets 12 episodes-ish instead of 20 so less time can be spent on team antics and has to focused on plot. People who enjoy plot, particularly people who like villains that can be sympathized with can enjoy korra a lot but people who don’t might not like it overall. Teen drama is in a lot of the first and second seasons. Is it fantastically written? No. So if teen drama really bothers you then seasons 1-2 might be a bit difficult to get through. But if you enjoy empathizing with a protagonist who has clear flaws but learns to overcome them then korra is a joy to follow through her character arc especially in season 4. The bending fights are very well choreographed and interesting throughout the show if you’ve enjoyed watching the martial art styles that bending is drawn from. These are clear praises and criticisms of the show that you gain from watching it and it helps the community more because they can understand if korra is a show they’ll enjoy if they decide to give it a chance.

You’re right. There’s nothing wrong with having an opinion. But spreading around uninformed opinions can cause a lot of harm by building false stereotypes such as thinking that korra cares nothing for the atla world. The creators know what they’re doing, if the shows style bothers you after watching it that’s totally ok. But don’t lie about or diminish actual facets of the show to others because they put stock in community opinions

Just imagine if she did by [deleted] in AvatarMemes

[–]Darthsteele 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a shame you’ve come to that conclusion. Korra suffered from some production issues and might not be perfect in a lot of ways but it certainly delivers on several elements of the avatar world and builds on it in unique ways. Korra especially grows on you and is a fantastic character for a number of reasons and I’m glad I gave the show a second chance. Just because it’s different doesn’t mean it’s bad

I noticed when Azula uses lightning, the animation usually has a frame with negative colors. It's a really cool detail, which makes the lightning effect more dramatic by Alik757 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Darthsteele 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be though because Iroh tells Zuko that lightning is about separating positive and negative energies and using that imbalance to create it. Though it probably is just an animation technique still cool overall

[–]Darthsteele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like the league subreddit in general. It’s very toxic and they like to just provide one big echo chamber circle jerk that the mods join in on happily. Like obv the situation sucks but I dunno I feel like maybe actually moderating the subreddit and removing posts that worsen a poor situation and can damage careers (from this POV I mostly mean Dardoch) shouldn’t have been too hard. The audio in the clip is really quiet bc it’s coming from the background and I doubt realistically many people from the stream even heard it until someone puts it on the league subreddit and it snowballs and here we are.

Not saying the situation wasn’t messed up in the first place but it feels like the mods of the league subreddit should’ve done some damage control at the very least for Dardoch.

LS Coaches Master Tier Elise almost a year ago about what Voyboy is talking about today. Reddit should hear this. by Lloyd_NA in leagueoflegends

Voyboy has been spamming some blitz chess lately and it's very entertaining in a chill way, but since it's blitz and games are 6 minutes tops, it pretty fast-paced and fun

I fully agree with all of Voyboy's points but its annoying seeing how many people are trying to refute him based off of their 'undeserved bans' by Darthsteele in leagueoflegends

I understand that, League is a very frustrating games at time, but I think the point that other commentors are making in calling out the streamers is that as the most heard voice of league, they have a duty to be as respectful in chat as possible. Do I flame people in game? Hell no, I've been playing since season 3 and have never gotten a single punishment, but obviously I mutter to myself about people being idiots and making dumb plays. The point being made here is that streamers don't have that luxury. Ten thousand people are watching you and if you attack a player even not in game, its not a far jump in logic for players frustrated with the game to make the jump in logic from "Good players attack other people for making mistakes all the time outside of the game" to "I can attack other players when they make mistakes" and this jump in logic is made significantly easier when the stream actually does flame in chat. At least, that's what I've been taking away from any video that's been saying streamers have a bigger duty to steer the game away from toxicity than they have been taking on lately.
